Hi everyone I am sorry to let you know that my grandad has just passed away.

We are as a family devastated.

Very sad news. First watched him play centre at the first game at Charles Street in 1946, with Pete Riley, Jimmy Rowe,Harry Todd, Cayzer et al. Great player, great clubman. The best of men. My deepest sympathy to you and your family

Very sad news i feel for the family and extended Leigh family, such a Gentleman with a fantastic attitude RIP Sir.

Very sad to hear this news. I've known, and respected Tommy, since I was a young kid, playing with his eldest son, Trevor, and then Ronnie, with whom I worked for a few years. Whilst Tommy may have been 'showing signs of his age' - as he was entitled to, well into his 90's - I felt sure he would live to get the telegram from the Queen. We are going to miss the cheery wave from the Directors' Box, on match days, and the chats about bygone times.

Our heart goes out to Jean, Ronnie and their families, at such a sad time. Your Dad/Grandad will always be fondly remembered.

Am truly heartbroken, Mr Sale (I never felt comfortable calling him Tommy) was and always will be my hero.

As a former pupil of his I owe all that I am now to the educational foundation he gave me and was proud to tell him so when I asked him to be 'Guest Of Honour' at the NW Counties 13-15s Grand Finals as my small way of saying thank you.

Whilst understanding that, at 97, there was an inevitability that one day this would happen it still came as a shock when I saw the sad news on the BBC News website and am fighting back the tears as I write.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you did for me personally and for your untiring support of our beloved Leigh Rugby League Club .... it was an honour to have known you. RIP Mr Sale you were one in a million and will miss you more than words can say.

I can never forget that day at Batley when he dived Over the line to celebrate us winning the league

RIP Tommy, the 2016 season should be dedicated to his memory and the impact he had on our club and town.

I'll always remember that day too. We should take the Tommy Sale flag and sing a song in tribute to him when we're in that Stand at Mount Pleasant on the 1st league game of the season.

Seen a clip on facebook of Tommy doing a try diving attempt at Batley after we won promotion in 2004.

Last time we thrashed HKR in the Aviva Cup final at Spotland he did the same.What a guy he was. 41 14. RIP.
