I have always rated Smith and I wonder why they are releasing him. Franchise in the bag or not they are in the same league as us next season.

There is another thread about pay cuts and I suppose that is what all Championship clubs will be doing next season.

Maybe he thinks he will get more money at another club ?

well i have heard from a fairly reasonable source that smith will be a leigh player next season.

perhaps there going to bring the outstanding yoof through that they've talked about all season.or perhaps there going to bring a SLE squad together so they have a season to gel.

We should not be signing players like Smith. He may not be as good next season and he is at the end of his career. We need good young players.

He's 28, I'd hardly call that the end of his career and I can't see McConnell being retained at the end of the season anyway

I don't think we should retain Jock but Smith is not the answer.

I think Jock is a good player myself, all he needs is a bit of confidence building up.

No, next season is a season with the NR Cup, the Championship, the playoffs, the Grand Final and the Challenge cup to play for.

i hope your right..i just cant see it for lots of people.once the team/s get the nod because they've ticked boxes the rest of the season becomes just a way of passing time i feel.

For a club currently in SL that will be what they have to play for from 2012 , I me sure they will be fine with that

If it means joining a comp where anyone can beat anyone (and regularly does!) and where you're not conceding a cricket score each week then yes, I suspect they will be fine with that.

Some fans make me laugh - Jock is not good enough. Several years ago he was at Leigh. We let him go (presumably coz he was not good enough). He ended up at Rochdale. He later re-signs for Leigh



Was there any chance of him ever being wanted by a top Championship side? Probably not - therefore that tells me one thing.
The same can be said for Maden / Alstead.
Once a player leaves Leigh and ends up at Rochdale / Swinton / Oldham we should not really sign them again.

Smith would be a great signing with Nicholson as his back up.

Plenty of teams rotate hookers these days.

Having Smithy's experience spelled with the enthusiasm of a young 'un could increase speed at the PTB and would also aid the younger players' development.

Smith plays the way Rowley used too, and lets face it we havent had a decent Hooker since he retired.

i think we are missing something, we have not had a regular loose forward, now i think smith would fit in at 13, allowing nicholson to learn from both him and duffy.
