| Offer accepted by Salford for Ormondroyd from Cas who are now seeking to agree personal terms with the player.
First player in the trolley then.
And so it begins.......

| It seems that Derek thinks that we can win the Challenge Cup this year. Why not? He thought so a couple of years ago and all our dreams came true. A lot of the players that brought home the jug then are no longer with us and we start anew - but we started anew that season too. It’ll prove harder this year as the freshers will have less months to gel (and more Rounds to negotiate). So some early (off-season - and we all know what that means) ramblings on the Cup from Bongser will follow.
For anyone that has been sleeping with their cranium up their crevice, Leigh Miners Rangers play from 12.30pm tomorrow (Saturday) in Oldham and Auntie is broadcasting it live on I-player and the Red Button. This pleasure will be denied Bongser as he will be working.
Come on LMR!
Also denied to this party will be the curiosity of following the 2pm kick-off between Mirfield and The Royal Navy as The Leopards potential third round opponents are whittled down from three to two. What a poodle’s picnic The RFL have made of this; icy weather in January is as good an excuse as the “Leaves on the track” in Autumn that did for SIR Bob Reid of British Rail back in the day. We’ve also seen one club forfeit a tie due to its “calendaring” breaching the RFL’s own rules concerning the health of amateur players. Where are the resignations? Thank Goodness the Beeb relegated the draw to I-player; marketing the game in this country is a task that’s hard enough (and seemingly beyond IMG) already, we don’t need the world to know what a pack of prannocks the governing body are!!
Anyway, speaking of marketing, Bongser hopes that the Navy prevail tomorrow and again against Worky in Round 2. The exotic nature of an early trip to a knee-deep quagmire in West Yorkshire or a freezing midden in Cumbria do not appeal. However, a jaunt to sun-drenched (hmmm) Pompey does.
Pipe dreams between three of us in The Egerton on Wednesday more than a little reliant on two other major factors:
Does Jet2 have any smaller ‘planes (Lear size but less fatal to celebs)?
Will there be any aircraft carriers docked in Portsmouth around the 8th of February?
All being positive, Degsy (fully regaled in his Leopard suit) should Jet2 it to Pompey, land on the ACC and be breeches buoyed to shore (full bosun’s pipe kerfuffle et al!) to where his pimped Lamborghini awaits. Press & TV in attendance.
…And boy there would be a few present should the jet take off from Barton Aerodrome with a mystery guest accompanying - full 2025 kit with an axeman’s hood covering his face (AND HAIR)!
Should Mirfield prevail tomorrow (or Worky down the line), this post will dissolve in a swirl of soft focus accompanied by glissandi on the harp!
As you can tell, Bongser is bored and cannot wait for the new season to start.

Salford fans believe there is a takeover planned for next week. If so it is hoped that Leigh have managed to procure Sneyd before any monies flood into the club.
Not sure what any consortium would want with Salford, except for a Super League franchise. They currently have no current assets (only debts and loans) and no fixed assets (shared stadium owned by Salford City Council). The only thing of value are the player contracts and the vote last week devalued the contracts by virtue of only a small number of buyers now being available. The fans hope that if they keep Sneyd they have a fighting chance, but the promotion and relegation spreadsheet system will see the club in the danger zone regardless.
Can Leigh prise the family jewels away from Salford before they shore up the defences? It shows how important a player Sneyd is, if the whole season pivots on one player.

That is what I have read too so that it is my understanding as well - it has also just been repeated in Total RL.
I think the proposal to be considered and/or approved is that at the meeting this week the clubs will agree to a further 2 week window for those clubs still with salary cap space - understood to be Wakefield, Castleford, Hull and Leigh - to reach agreement with Salford for the signing of Salford's players up to the value of their respective salary caps. At the end of the 2 week period the supermarket sweep starts in earnest with a salary cap dispensation to all clubs to sign the remaining Salford players until Salford reach their RL imposed spending limit based upon the salaries of the residue of their squad still remaining.
2 points.
Salford are saying that a modest offer from one of the 4 clubs currently with space on their spending cap has been made for one of their leading players. Don't know who but I bet it involves Sneyd and, if it is, then it is likely to be us or those lovely cheeky chappies from Kingston. The 'offer' is however considered by Salford to be derisory. Welcome to the big, bad and some would say unpleasant world of business and the principle of 'a buyers market'
Secondly, the busy little beavers that populate the Red Devils Fans Forum genuinely believe that there will be a takeover announcement made tomorrow, Monday. The logic is that the buy out will make all of the above irrelevant because the new funding will keep them afloat and enable them to waive a huge 2 fingers at RL, RL journalists, Salford City Council, supporters from all other clubs - except Keighley - Mother Theresa and Zebadee from the Magic Roundabout (by goodness do they hate him and blame the spring coiled one for everything that has befallen their great club).
The buy out will also crucially enable them to keep all their star players and to even add a few more (don't ask me where from) and to challenge Wigan and KR for honours at the top end of SL in the coming season and, basically, forever.
They are either privy to information that no one else has been able to glean or they are more delusional that a certain historical Austrian corporal.
let's see what tomorrow brings, or doesn't.
