After the heartbreak of the first team narrowly missing out on promotion last season, the lads have met up to debrief, had a good break over Christmas and are now back into the swing of things with pre-season officially starting on January 5th.
A lot of hard work has gone in behind the scenes to ensure pre-season is structured, organised and re-designed from last year to ensure further improvements. As with every season, the coaching staff has pinpointed areas where things could have been done better last season and will be going all out to ensure that the squad is better prepared than ever before.
With three local teams coming down and three tough Yorkshire teams coming up, next season will be one of the most competitive in recent years for the first team. With this in mind, conditioner Martin Roden has provided players with a structured weights programme to ensure the lads can match fire with fire.
The second team will look to build on their successful campaign last time out and test themselves in a higher division. With the good mix of youth and experience that is reflected in coaching duo Ryan King and Kevin Anderton, all ingredients are there for this to happen.
The majority of last season’s squad have been retained with some exciting additions hopefully on the horizon. Added to that a further promotion of lads from the successful under 18’s ranks at the club and numbers are looking healthy to continue the great strides that were made last season.
The coaching set up remains exactly the same and the roles of volunteers involved with the open age set up have been reviewed and defined to ensure greater focus.
The communications and sponsorship teams are also building on the improvements made last year with lots of activity going on to promote the club and attract new supporters. A real team effort from a wide cross section of people that continue to innovate and push the club to new levels with the full support of the committee.
Building on the strides made in 2015 there is a real positivity around Ledgard Avenue and all in all, pre-season has got off to a good start and everyone is glad to be back. Now the real tough stuff starts as both open age teams prepare to go into the February friendlies in peak condition.
There is a real sense of togetherness and a determination to do "Whatever it Takes" to make 2016 a year to remember.
