TOMMY SALE MBE, 1918-2016
Leigh Centurions can now confirm the funeral details for Club President Tommy Sale MBE who passed away on Sunday at the age of 97.
The funeral will take place on Friday 15th January at 12.15pm at Leigh Parish Church (next to Leigh Town Hall). This is open to the public for anyone who wishes to attend (reserved seating will be in place for family and invited guests)
Following the funeral service family and close friends will proceed to the crematorium service which will begin at 1.45pm.
Following the service the family and invited guests will take refreshments in the banqueting suite at Leigh Sports Village Stadium. Due to the unprecedented numbers expected for the funeral, unfortunately this is being controlled by ticket only due to capacity restrictions in the banqueting suite at Leigh Sports Village Stadium. (The church service is open to all and is not restricted)
For supporters not wishing to attend the funeral but still pay their respects the funeral procession will drive onto Sale Way and past the front of the LSV Stadium shortly after 11.30am.
Tommy’s daughter Jean and son Ronnie have made the following statement on behalf of the family:
“We have been overwhelmed by the messages of support and tributes to dad in such a short period of time and we are truly grateful. This has been of great comfort to all his family in our time of loss.
“We are immensely proud of all of Tommy’s achievements but more importantly he was a caring and loving husband, father, father in law, grandfather and great grandfather who was an inspiration and example to us all.
“His legacy will sustain us all in the months and years ahead. God bless.”
