If we had say 5 dc's they would not have been allowed to play last night nor over Easter. How would our team have been better having lost 5 of its team for a match against one of the biggest teams in the land?
I see that there is benefit for the individual players for such a system and the ability to keep all the fringe players who otherwise might play for a lower div team on a full contract basis.
I don't see the long term benefit for the club the DC visits? Unless they weren't good enough for the parent club and then there is a slight chance that some of them may, possibly, sign for the club that they played for.
I don't care that the partnership is with Wigan as tbh that's the best club to partner with as the local lads are more likely to come to us if they get dumped by the parent club. But I think its taking a massive gamble on the future of the game.
Circa 2k fans came last night it was more like 300 against the best in our division. I don't think dc's will solve the real issue of no one wants to watch championship rugby anymore. Of those that do I suspect most don't want to watch a barbarian type side every week. I don't and won't. As the fax fans sang on Sunday we sold out! for a few beans and a prayer.
I just want to add that wigans try scrorers were tomkins, charnley and richards (williams managed to grab one late on) but the 3 mentioned are world class players. I know it sounds daft but if them 3 players didnt play i couldnt see many of wigans players causing us any problems. Wigans pack except oloughlin are very average, logan tomkins is very average to say the least. I dont think we are a million miles away, when they had a half chance they made it into 4 points, where as we werent so clinical but thats the difference at the top level. Dont know if anyone else saw brierleys break in the second half but tomkins werent getting any closer to him but yet brierley stopped and hit the floor, if it was anyone else chasing him im sure he wouldnt of looked back.
