The good thing about Brown is he's very versatile. Can play stand off, loose forward or in the centre (his original position).

My mate a Widnes fan phoned me saying it's a done deal nothing about the length of contract though only that it will be announced around the fourteenth with the fee being an eye opener considering his age.

If true then I feel the future for Patton is secure as he's the only one I can see for scrum half

I heard Widnes were happy with £110k transfer, twice that of an offer from Saints, to allow us talks with Brown.

You honestly don't know how good a player he is. I'm amazed at the criticism. Brown is an excellent leader and one of the best passers of the ball in the league.

He's scored 51 tries in 81 games for Widnes, for a stand off hardly a shabby record.

His biggest weaknesses is pace and his kicking game isn't as consistent as it should be (someone has praised his kicking on this thread which proves to me he doesn't know his game at all).

It's great news for your outside backs as he loves playing blind side and getting the ball to the wings early. He's a huge loss to Widnes and will mean middle 8's for us next year, when we spent much of this year in the top 6 - such is his influence.

Bit old fashioned? Gidley will play on one side, Brown on the other. The classic stand off & scrum half don't exist in our structure anymore.

True in that sense I was thinking more Patton being one of the two the one who puts the ball in the scrum then plays it out I call it the scrum half nothing wrong with being a little old fashioned, I must admit to thinking about how it would work with both Gidley and brown playing probably something along the lines you pass to me No you pass to me No you pass to me first, right that's it I'm not playing OK I'll bring Dec on.

Fair play to him if he stays, he could obviously get more money with us - if we ever did have any interest.

I think there's interest but we've rejected it and so has George, he'll go to the NRL eventually but that'll be in 3-4 years imo
