| Murrayfield stadium I was impressed with, but its in the middle of nowhere, I mean pubs, resteraunts etc and also as much as Edinburgh is a nice city it lacks decent places where you can get a meal.

| Another reason why they pulled out of Cardiff was they were ripping people off with accomodation, maybe Newcastle next but is there much around the ground?

| Quote ="ninearches"What i can't understand is why the games are played on this particular weekend ( i know it's a long weekend for most people) when the various football leagues are at the business end of the season and are likely to take precedence in the minds of the people we are trying to convert to RL.'"
This for me is a key point that shouldn't be overlooked. A quick scan on this website alone (avatars, signatures, usernames etc) reveals that plenty of RL fans support a football club as well and personally I've never been to a Magic Weekend because I'm not missing a Liverpool game at the business end of the season. A similar scenario will arise with the locals in the respective cities, especially if you play it somewhere like Manchester or Newcastle in future, who will be more focussed on their football club than another sporting event turning up which is a novelty to them.
The Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May would make far more sense I reckon as well as making it easier to potentially book somewhere like Eastlands or St. James' Park as they may appreciate a decent pay day a couple of weeks after their season ends when they've got plenty of time to then re-lay the pitch.

The hoteliers can hike the prices as there's only 7,500 hotel rooms in Cardiff (plus its their livelyhood).

It's ok peple being fo the opinion that they don't want to go back to Edinburgh, but to claim there aren't any decent places to eat is going too far.
The city has more decent bars and restaurants than anywhere else I know (outside London).
Personally I'd be over the moon if it were to be at Murrayfield again, but I expect the whole concept will be shelved.

| Quote ="Fatbelly"St James Park at Newcastle would be a great venue.
A great stadium which would not look stupidly empty because it only holds 51k, plus the town of Newcastle is a great place to visit.
Manchester would not be good the City of Manchester stadium is about five miles out so getting 20,000 people from the centre of Manchester to the ground would be a problem.
London, no way keep that for the Challenge cup.
Dublin, would be a great venue but getting there would be a real pain.
Birmingham at Villa Park same problem as Manchester.
Cardiff, a lot of people like Cardiff but it doesn't do it for me.
So a trip to Newcastle would be my choice, it would have to be done on the Bank Holiday at the end of May so it would clash with the football.'"
Eastlands is about 5 miles out of the city centre ........ give or take 3 1/2 miles or so. Doh.

| Thing is there's no football club with an ounce of sense that will let us play 7 games on their pitch. Plus the venue has to have a roof. Plus someone has to fund the cost of the hire of the ground & staff. Now who apart from Murrayfield would accept those conditions.

Cardiff is only about half an hour further by car. Unless you go via A49, which is long but has the undoubted pleasure of the Ludlow Food Centre (and some beautiful scenery).

Steve. Nobody at Newcastle United has an ounce of sense. They've proved it year after year. If we could play it there it would be great. There's plenty of pubs around the ground and an additional plus would be for Gatehead to play a\game on the Friday night to give them a bit of a lift.

| Now that Newcastle will be in the Premiership next season i'd be very suprised if they agreed to letting us stage the Magic weekend there.
As said before Elland Road could be a good shout.
I also think places like Portman or Carrow Road could be a good shout, a nice weekend in East Anglia.

I've been to Carrow Road, it's a great ground IMO and would meet the requirements.

| Noting magic about this weekend for me, unless there were 30,000 people wearing invisibility cloaks inside Murrayfield on both days.
Maybe it's time to scrap the idea...

Norwich is at least four hours drive from Warrington, and about half an hour inland from the coast.
Its pretty much in the middle of nowhere, although I hear there's a cracking owl sanctuary nearby.

Valid point.
Having done some research it now only holds around 26000 anyway. And with the four hour drive but having said that i've done it in 2 and a half - 3 hours myself.
Out of the venues menshioned my conclusion is:
[uNewcastle [/u- Great venue. Smaller capacity stadium than Edinburgh, great city and a good night life.
[uVilla Park (Birmingham)[/u - Another great venue IMO. A good ground in a big city. A 2hour driving distance and this would suit every team except Catalans. Also a god opportunity to try and promote the game in the Midlands.
[uEastlands[/u - An ideal location. In the middle-ish of the heartland clubs, easy to get to and would definatley bump up the attendances.
[uTaking it back to Cardiff[/u - I liked Cardiff but fancy a change. A good stadium but again over seated for the attendances we bring.
[uDublin (Croke Park)[/u - Wouldn't mind it here myself however - issues such as cost and transport will crop up and rightly so. However a nice weekend in Dublin with some Guisness or Magners .

| Return to Cardiff for me.
As for the games, what about using the league positions two weeks before the Magic Weekend, ie First plays Second, Third plays Fourth etc. This year we would have had:
Wigan V Wire
Saints V Huddersfield
Bradford V Hull
Hull KR V Wakefield
Leeds V Crusaders
Cas V Salford
Catalans V London
These matches would likely be competitive and would have an impact on the league table. The Teams in theory should be quite evenly matched and inject a little spice into the weekend.

It's not five star, but it's certainly competitive.
Great weekend in Edinborrow for me, much better than last year. The only downside was how empty the stadium looked, such a shame.
If the RFL persist with this weekend, Newcastle looks favourite on the suggestions I've seen on here so far. Certainly not Elland Road, that's for sure. Some six months or so after the Four Nations Final, I still get angry about the queue for the six, count 'em, six ladies toilets. Grr.

a lot of ladies were using the mens toilets when i was in them on a couple of occasions, however 6 toilets is very poor!
