Not that I condone violence in the stands, but pressure points around the neck and shoulder or even in the armpit! put enough pressure on renders a "thug"/"attacker"/"someone showing resistance" helpless!

Anyone with a basic knowledge of Martial Arts would know this!

I've got a basic knowledge of a couple of martial arts, at no point have i been instructed how to prise someones arm off a crush barrier when they're doing their best squidward impersonation.

Removing their arm from a barrier would be similar to if they had a grip of your shirt and pinning you up, the concept is the same, just a different scenario.

Like you I have knowledge in a couple of martial arts and the most recent one I studied we focused on pressure points and how to render someone helpless by there use.

But like I said earlier I don't condone the use of Violence in any situation and those that go places to cause trouble, be it in a sports Stadia or a generally night out, really need to get a grip of their lives.

All this talk of pressure points is OK when you're in the Gym, but try it in a real situation when there are arms and legs flailing all over the place and allsorts going on around you.

The point I was making was instead of punching the arm/upper body, which acted as an antagonist for the crowd behind the incident, apply pressure to the pressure point to release the arm from the barricade.

However the incident transpired the way it did and is now being dealt with by the appropriate authorities.

Roll on Next Friday where a decent atmosphere is expected and a decent Away following present.. I always enjoy the banter between the Wire and Saints fans, don't think it can be bettered.

I thought the same but it's news after all but regardless of if you're Widnes or Wire, the whole episode tarnishes the game, especially when a rag like that gets hold of it!

In these days of instant video technology it is probably more advisable for stewards to abandon head shots & karate chops & revert to the good old tried & tested knee in the nuts or the Australian squirrel grip.

The video footage (especially slowed down) once again show the punches landing on the arm. Lets wait and see what the police find as the cause of those injuries.

Has the fan been charged with anything? I bet his mate neglected to film what he was doing before the stewards got hold of him. The Mail also didn't bother to ask him what he was doing in the middle of all the trouble. Strange how the steward is hitting his arm in the video, but he's got bruising to the face. I wonder what he'd been doing beforehand.

I said on the VT thread of this. Why did it take so long for the mail to publish this story and when were the photos taken of the so called fan.

If he was one of those detained that night, his "injuries" would have been noted by the police before his release. If he wasnt..................wasnt there trouble on the way to the station after the game?

Yes, there was a full blown fight about 100 yards before they got to the station, however if he had been arrested he wouldn't have been released by then. we only have half a story and I'm sure the lad himself will have conveniently forgotten the other half of it. Bit of a smokescreen been thrown up here, some seem to have forgotten that if the Widnes fans had not kicked off, then the incident with the steward would not have occurred.
