He's got genuine pace, which is a rarity these days. He's looked solid at fullback defensively in two big games, so you can understand Warrington fans being excited. Plenty to work on though, Warrington need to decide early if fullback is his future position as there is a lot more to it than being quick. He is very raw particularly in his attacking positioning, but two games into his top flight career at a new club that's to be expected. He'd also make a fine centre, something Warrington have lacked in the Super League era. He has good hands, as seen with his assist for Charnley's walkover and his pace would be dangerous there.

Every game he plays he is learning, so it would be good to keep him in the team, plus of course he is a real danger to the opposition with that sort of pace. I don't think I have seen another Wire player as fast as that, he could catch the wind.

But why disrupt the team that much? King has been playing well in the centre, BMM has been playing very well out wide and Clark has actually looked pretty good the past two games.

I think we'll see Ashton taking a place on the bench, then first player to come back in to the 13 when we get an injury / suspension to Ratchford, Charnley, Lineham, Austin or Widdop.

Agree with this, he will get minutes off the bench, we can cover an injury across the whole backline with a bit of a shuffle. If we are blowing a team away we can rest austin/ widdop/ ratchford and keep them fresh. There are always injuries and suspensions anyway so he will get plenty of game time.

The fact you suggested that Warrington have lacked fine centres in the SL era would indicate you are fishing...…..unless you're just ignorant
Atkins who was at Wire for 10 years is among the best centres to grace SL add to the mix Gleeson King Hikau Kohe Love to name but a few I'd say the response was more than justified

I do however wave the white flag on that position as until recently... arguably the last out and out centre we signed was Martin Gleeson.

Yes, you could certainly do that, there are several options for Price. He could even drop Charnley and put Ashton on the wing.

My thoughts are that keeping Ashton in the team gives him much needed experience, provides attacking edge, and puts pressure on other squad members to up their game. If you take him out, then he doesn't get the reward for his hard work. What do the likes of Thewliss think about their chances of establishing themselves in the first team when they see Ashton benched after putting in two strong performances ? So I think Price has a juggling act to perform between winning the points, maintaining stability in the early few SL games, encouraging individual squad players to perform at a higher level and providing room for growth for the Academy players.

It's a generalisation. On the whole your centres haven't been outstanding, particularly recently and I'd include Atkins in that. Just an opinion, feel free to not agree.

But successful, so it matters little what people think of him. All this because I praised Ashton.

If Ashton makes way for Widdop returning it's not like he's being sent back to square one. He's shown that he isn't overwhelmed by SL and has looked impressive in his first couple of games and will know that over a full season, the pressures on a squad mean he will be called on again and he's going to be next in line.

The coach has to make a judgement on who is best placed to win the next week not give places out as a reward for playing well the previous week.

If over the season, Ashton establishes himself as a first teamer and we get to Wembley and the week before he's struggling with a niggling injury so Price leaves him out, and one of the other young lads comes in and has a belter of a game, we wouldn't expect Ashton to be left out for Wembley to reward that kid for the last week.

Players like Widdop, Ratchford, Lineham and Charnley have all proved themselves over a long period of time so I think if a young player starts kicking up a fuss about why was one of them not left out to keep Ashton in the team they've got a bit of an attitude problem. It would be different if those guys were either a) playing consistently bad and worthy of being dropped in their own right, or b) in probably the last season of their career, and so it being time to look to move to the future, but that isn't the case even though Charnley hasn't been himself for a while.

One big benefit we have got from Ashton's emergence is it has taken the pressure off the Widdop injury situation. We're doing OK without him so we can take time and let him get back to 100% before risking him, or let him get match fitness back by using him as a bench player introducing him for limited minutes with Ashton as a starter.

He could be at Widnes within a fortnight.

That would be one way of getting match fitness back....what a fall from the NRL
