I seriously doubt that Brown, or any regular super league player, makes an average of 12 errors per game.

If you had 6 months to recruit someone then Brown would be a fairly underwhelming signing, but given the circumstances I think you've done very well to be honest.

This really is the nub of this debate.
The other issue that keeps being forgotten is that we have injuries at the start of the season. We would be taking a huge risk starting a season without getting an extra half back. Just to clarify to those who don't seem to listen (or read anything before making a comment) ... we have no Patton or Ratchford at the start of the season.

Matty Russell at stand off is the alternative.

If we are playing "name a random player to play half back" then that is a possibility...but in the real world I can't see any basis for it, so perhaps you could explain your thinking?

He played there when he was younger and it was suggested by TS, at some point last season and I’m sure he’s said himself, it’s something for the future. Sounds farfetched, but who knows, if we start the season without Ratchford, Patton and no replacement for Sandow…?

I watched Russell throughout his academy days at Wigan and don't ever recall him playing stand-off.

Morgan Smith isn't ready to be a regular half in SL, or even in 50% of the games.
iirc, when he's been on as a relief half from the bench in SL he's not lasted long before TS has either moved him or hauled him off.

I'm happy to give Patton a crack at first choice hb but I'd still want a proven guy to put things right if he screws up, while we pursue the treble..

What position does Harvey Livett play ? Apparently he tears up trees in the reserves. Is there no half back cover in the reserves/academy/under 23s whatever it is called for 2017 or has that age group disappeared again ?
