Then he just wasn't a threat with ball in hand.'"
Fantastic kick off resulting in a drop out from which we scored. Didn't try to repeat that again all match, and he had plenty of opportunity!

| He is rank average, in the same way that Wheeler is. Why he was picked today I will never understand. Toomany average players = and average season, which is what we have had. Not good enough.

| With England and asotasi we are effectively playing with one hand tied behind our backs. When they come on we look flat and desperate... We lose the collision, go on the back foot and usually go behind. Other teams have impact forwards. We have bloody awful ones.

I would love to know who decides when to buy players and which one's. Is it mainly SJM or TS ? Who thought England would be a good punt for instance. They had to rebuild his shoulder, then introduce him to SL standard fitness, take out the Championship rough stuff, iron out his one 60 mph drive (after which he was exhausted), try to get him to use his feet, and he still has not made it. That's a lot of extra effort after paying £30k transfer fee. How about Asotasi ? Surely they took advice in Oz about his likely attitude, and didn't the alarm bells ring when he failed to turn up for the World Cup ? Then there was Wheeler, well we don't need to go into that one. But there is a strong theme developing here, someone seems to love a 'bargain'. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the Joel and Sandow bargains because we know exactly what is under the bonnet, but with SJM's dosh do we really need to go for so many 'punts' ?
We were unlucky with Clark (who needs an op), but he is the quality of player we should be aiming for. Also Lineham and Gidley. Yes, even these players can fail to perform and are something of a gamble because of the amount of money we ( sorry Simon, I mean you) have to put up. But at least the odds are far more in our favour at this level. We need to stop visiting the Pound Shop and then wondering why the hell the goods are faulty when we get back home.

Whilst I'd like to think we'd have a decent shot at finishing 4th in super8s ,playing with only 2 effective forwards is going to make it near impossible, Sandow can only do so much

I agree ,I might be wrong but, I think there has been a change of attitude since Draper became CEO and warrington will seek to sign the best players whilst also bringing through the youth ,I hope I'm not being naive or that the half d amateurs at the club don't get to rule the day

| I'm a huge fan of O'Brien but he was a complete waste of a jersey today
but he wasn't on his own......
It was THE most disgraceful performance Ive seen in a long time...
people are lauding Albert Kelly as some kind of Halfback genius because two out of eight kicks found the touchline..... that puts into perspective how bad our halfbacks and the whole team were today ...
Christ...as a result of our performance today Chris Chester has been on BBC and said his side are the best in the competition....... I'm disgusted in warrington Rugby league club its as low as Ive felt for years, we are miles away from competing with Quality teams...

| Time is running out for Gaz. I suspect he'll be here next season purely because he's contracted, if he wasn't he would almost certainly be joining Asotasi, Bridge, Wheeler and Myler (worked his testicles off today) at the job centre.

| I've never really rated GOB to be honest his kicking game is so hit and miss its ridiculous.. One good kick ( the kick off which forced the drop out) followed by Zero other good kicks.
With ball in hand he either just ships it on to the next player or gets caught in possession, thus killing the momentum.
He's had players like Briers,Johns,Bridge,Myler,Ratchford all around him to learn from and been a regular first teamer for a while at Wire. Add to this long loan spells at Cas,Widnes and Saints but he still looks very average and a long way off being the HB to take us where we want to be.
I hate to sound so harsh but sorry Gaz your time should be up at Wire.

| Whilst this thread is about our half back can I just mention Lee Briers - it is getting really, really embarrassing having him on the pitch so often during a game.
If he was a coach at any other club playing against us then this board would be in meltdown! And if he's doing this under instruction from Smith, which he obviously is, then it is all the more embarrassing........ he was organising the attack and defence yesterday!!! He could at least wear a water carrier T-shirt as some form of disguise, but oh no, he has his Coach T-shirt on.
Come on guys, someone else on here must surely cringe when they see him come on?

I totally agree with your sentiments, and the majority of your post.
However, I am a little uneasy with the Gidley signing, & sincerely hope that he doesn`t end-up being our Asotasi equivalent, playing in the backs.
Like Asotasi he has had a great playing career in the NRL, but Old Father Time is catching up, or has caught-up with him.
We will find out next season.
Thankfully,we have learned one lesson from the Asotasi fiasco........ Gidley has only been allocated a one year contract, with a further option, which will be taken-up or not, based on his success in his initial season.

| We were found wanting for pace again Myler worked hard O'Brien had a few half breaks but they couldn't go with Kelly's pace, he also thinks quicker, Monaghan looked in discomfort when caught from behind, Hypothetical but had Penny got that ball it would have been a different outcome, but that was a selection call.
Fortunately all seems to be being addressed for next season but let's hope they don't forget the pack.

Watching a Newcastle match just a couple of weeks ago they mentioned the fitness of Gidley. ..they said .After 15 seasons in the nrl he still tops their pre season bleep test.. .. that's quite impressive.
After watching Asotasi most of us fans need a bleep machine ...the useless @#$##@...

| I agree with one of the earlier posts, you cant expect your half backs and hooker to perform behind a beaten pack. Wilde put in a good tackling stint, but he was never going to trouble the opposition in the same way that Westwood can. For me the semi final was lost last weekend as a result of Russell's injury and Westwood's citing (with special thanks going to Daryl Powell).

This.
Same team as last week Penny in for Russell we'd have won. G'OB and Myler were great against Cas....mind you so was the pack and the rest of the team now I wonder is there a connection?
