| Quote ="Wires71"Foreign office view vs that of the treasury. It's about vested interests and Maggie showed a lot of balls in doing what she did. Under Labour we would have whimpered away with some sanctions and strong words.
I'm still suprised we still have hold of Gibraltar after 13 years of Labour .'"
Michael Foot was leader of the Labour party at the time, he supported the Falklands war, despite being a CND member and generally anti-war. He basically took the view that Galtieri was a fascist dictator who was trying to seize the islands through force, and needed to be resisted.

| Less than 5% swing on the last one.
From the reaction of the politicians being interviewed on tv I would say that labour had been expecting a massacre and are actually gloating slightly in Cameron's apparent failure to return a majority government.
Mandelson dangled the electoral re-form carrot nice and early in the evening.

Yes I only had to queue for about 5 minutes. The polls are open till 10pm, can't see why people left it so late to go down?

| Its amusing how Peter Mandleson and Alan Johnson have both been on banging the drum for electoral reform. It's a shame we've had a government for 13 years who was opposed to it.
What will also be funny is if we have a Lab/Lib coalition government, whilst the Conservatives are the largest party. Then hopefully the Conservatives will accept that the priority is having a firm decisive government tomorrow and not squabbling about electoral reform like some soft wooly liberals.

| I can see Brown seeking legal counsel to see if there is anything to gain from an action to support those s who couldnt manage to vote on time or elect to vote by post in the name of democracy.
I'm very confident the Tory support were out bright and early this morning to place their vote.
The sucking up by Mandelson et al to the LD's is sickening, it's not as id the LD vote is looking anything like decent.
But I expect the LD's to do better where there is a realistic chance of a seat.

| I voted UKIP, I'm a centre of right person, i honestly can't see the Tories be anything different to New Labour.
I know my vote is wasted but hey oh. When i'm qualified in a couple of years i'll be voting Green for the rest of my life but till then i'll waste my vote in a different way.

I think it's unfair to criticise people like that. Many people who are getting kids up for school, going straight to work and back feeding kids/bath/homework/whatever may not have had chance to vote until later one and got caught in the unexpected queues. Equally, who on earth would have expected a queue at 9pm? Maybe some people thought it was a better time to go as it wouldn't be busy.
Quote ="Wires71"I'm very confident the Tory support were out bright and early this morning to place their vote.'"
That's because the average Tory supporter has nothing better to do, like go out to work, because they're too busy sitting on their big fat inherited fortunes

I did all those things and still managed to vote. If people thought they may struggle to vote in the 15 hours from 7am this morning they should have voted by post.

| I've just watched North West Today. Just about sums this country's population up. Some salad dodger, screaming her head off, because she didn't get her vote cast in time.
YOU'VE HAD 15 HOURS, YOU SILLY £$@%& . Or were you to busy watching your SKY+ editions of Jeremy Kyle, Trisha and Judge Judy, just intime for the real time screenings of Eastenders and Corrie, rather than get off your fat behind and wobble down to your local polling station for an event that happens every 4-5 years.
I remember watching Alexei Sayle a few years ago, when he said "the poor and the stupid are always with us". The poor, you have sympathy with. The stupid on the other hand.........

Voted in a Tory candidate - it's happened before but not for a while.
What has really happened is a lot of normally Labour voters have taken the protest vote and gone for the Lib Dems. I think if Helen Southworth would have stood again she would have just scraped it again, Nick Bent rubbed too many people up the wrong way from the start. Libs Dems were never a viable option, espeically as Jo Crotty has been a member of our all too inept council. She just got lucky with a protest vote.

In the queue, Sunshine. In the queue.
Mind you, I've still got to get rid of all thoughts of Susanna Reid, first.
