See from the Guardian that David Mowatt, Conservative candidate in Warrington South, has donated £22k of his own money to Warrington South Conservative Association.
So a man who can afford to donate the average annual wage in one go wants us to believe that he is best to represent "ordinary" people.

Surely part of a democracy is that you have the right to vote or not vote. Why should people disinterested in politics be forced to make a random selection, or just think "well at least the BNP would get the asians shipped off home, so I'm gonna vote for them if I have to"

He didnt quite say that - he certainly mentioned the importance as he saw it of voting but he pointed out that in Australia the compulsory voting is something everyone has grown up with and so its more accepted - the fines for not voting are pursued , and youve got to have a good reason for not showing up. I asked him could it work in the UK , he said it could but its getting the " compulsory" aspect of it accepted that could be a real battle.

One major difference Australia in its last federal election in 2007 had an electorate of 13 million , today in the UK we have 44 million - a couple of people told me theyd heard it and enjoyed it but both said no to compulsion and they are people who will be voting without question -

Agreed. I think there is a box (or similar) on the voting card that signals zero interest in the election or something but everyone has to mark a card.

sallycinammon - if you don't vote then your views on anything political etc are irrelevant to us voters. You seem so interested in the aspects of this election, and obvioiusly have a fair knowledge of current events, so why haven't you voted since 2000?

of course you can have a view on anything political if you dont vote...i wont be voting because these clowns are not going to improve my life one bit..until a certain party share the same views that i have i shall not be wasting my time..

2..immigration control
3..petrol prices
4..discipline on kids(should you smack your child)
5..speed cameras.was`nt there one area that did away with these things..why

I haven't voted for 10 years because Im quite picky politically and can usually find something in the parties' manifestos which is a turn off. However this year's Green Party manifesto fits quite closely with my agenda so I'm going to vote for them tonight, and also out of the party leaders, I get the impression Caroline Lucas is the most genuine and capable, so that has sealed it. Wouldn't say I have long standing loyalty to the Greens though, its just an opportunist vote for the here and now.

Ideally I would like to vote Labour but I can't support their current pro-US foreign policy, pro nuclear defence stance.
