| Quote ="Wires71"Saturday attendance was 26,642. A bit more than I thought but down by 10% on 2009 (29,627).'"
Sunday's attendance was 25,401. Total for Magic Weekend 2010 is 52,043 down 18% on last year's 63,144.
Last weekend's normal SL round attracted 67,818.
Can only be considered a failure. I suggest we play it at Old Trafford or Eastlands next year (if we must persist with it).

| to be honest its more what you make of it as a weekend (presuming your not on a day trip), Cardiff is better location wise but Edinburgh is a quality city.
Anyone wanting it played at a premier league venue is dreaming, sorry.
And £4 a pint is taking the pIss.

| MANCHESTER
[iThe City Of Manchester Stadium
In my opinion the games should be as follows:
Wigan v Saints
Leeds v Bradford
Catalans v Crusaders
Castleford v Wakefield
Hull FC v Hull KR
Harlequins v Huddersfield
Salford v Warrington
BUT one thing I would change is just to make the weekend part of the normal fixtures and not create an extra game during the season.
But of course the clubs won't like that but I bet the players and coaches would.

| St James Park at Newcastle would be a great venue.
A great stadium which would not look stupidly empty because it only holds 51k, plus the town of Newcastle is a great place to visit.
Manchester would not be good the City of Manchester stadium is about five miles out so getting 20,000 people from the centre of Manchester to the ground would be a problem.
London, no way keep that for the Challenge cup.
Dublin, would be a great venue but getting there would be a real pain.
Birmingham at Villa Park same problem as Manchester.
Cardiff, a lot of people like Cardiff but it doesn't do it for me.
So a trip to Newcastle would be my choice, it would have to be done on the Bank Holiday at the end of May so it would clash with the football.

| personally id agree and go with newcastle, because its smaller and its not as far away as edinburgh and the whole reason for doing the 'magicweekend' is to expand rugby league and you can do that in newcastle i.e gateshead thunder.

| IMO the games this year have been a disappointment...too many games have been one sided.
I also don't think the derbies should be taken on the road...they are best left where they really matter...at the home grounds....so how do you ensure a good tight game for proper entertainment?
The best way of achieving this is to match up teams with similar league positions..as this is usually the best indicator on how good a team is!
You can't leave it until the last minute to decide the fixture list...so why not decide the fixtures for the weekend based on the finishing league positions of the previous season?...its not an exact science but it is surely the best way of getting the most teams into a competitive match. You can't really account for how a team might improve over the course of the off season....and the start of a new season...but it should still generate some good close games.
It could then be marketed as the four pointer weekend or something like that!
So base on last years (2009) finishing positions the fixture this year would have been....
(1st) Leeds v (2nd) Saints..GOOD GAME
(3rd)Huddersfield v (4th) Hull KR...GOOD GAME
(5th)Wigan v (6th)Wakefield..mmmm not sure
(7th)Castleford v (8th)Catalan..not a bad game
(9th)Bradford v (10th)Warrington..GOOD GAME
(11th)Harlequins v (12th)Hull..GOOD GAME
(13th)Salford v (14th)Crusaders..not sure
As for the location...everyone seems to like Cardiff! (apart from FATBELLY! )

| I can't see any football club in the country allowing their pitch to be used for seven rugby league matches in two days during the last few weeks of their season, so unless the RFL change the weekend then I can't see St James Park, Villa Park, Anfield or any other football stadia that I have heard mentioned being used. Dublin would suit me as I have family over there, but I think the costs and travel involved would put too many off. This would leave major rugby stadia in mainland UK, which as far as I am aware means Murrayfield, Cardiff or Twickenham. Murrayfield, IMO, hasn't worked as well as Cardiff (which was excellent) and I too think that London should be kept for the Challenge Cup Final. So it's Cardiff for me.
As regards the fixtures, then I still think SL should remain as 26 games (13 home and away) and use the 'Magic Weekend' to revitalise the Challenge Cup. Championship and amateur teams play until there are two remaining at which point the 14 SL clubs come into the draw. 16 teams, eight games, all played in Cardiff over a weekend, winner goes through, loser goes out of the cup. I appreciate that the 'lesser' clubs would have less chance of pitting themselves against SL opposition, but for the two clubs that make the 16 the reward is fantastic. Obvious issue is the Challenge Cup is BBC rather than Sky, but I'm sure the three concerned (RFL, BBC and Sky) could work something out.

They manage to do that every week. Most come form the city centre.
I like the idea but it is a pain in the to get to Edinburgh. What about twikenham? Much more accessible than Edinburgh for most with direct trains getting you into London in two hours for most of the clubs and a different non-football stadium. Fair enough it may be big but choose decent games and they you will get a good turnout.

| Newcastle wins it for me
Good transport links (the A1 is near enough 3 lanes the whole way)
No problem finding accomodation, even if you cant get in the centre of Newcastle there are many surrounding towns, Whitley bay etc etc
Excellent nightlife

Eastlands is not 5 miles from the City Centre . It is a 30 min walk from Piccadilly Station or 5 min Taxi ride . Quite a few buses go that way aswell .
Newcastle would be a great place to have it or perhaps White Hart Lane or Villa Park .
Another thing is if we move it to the end of May it clashes with the Football League Play Off Finals . Lets say Leeds/Bradford/ Huddersfield or Hull City reach the final it may affect the attendance

| Newcastle for me. Great Stadium and a great city. Ive been to every Magic Weekend and enjoyed it, but I feel it needs to be played in a smaller stadium with more competitive games. I would definitely bring the derby fixtures back.

| We had this conversation last night ... The Magic Weekend is the extra game, therefore do you want to influence the outcome of the league by "fixing" the games. It's be lovely to have all derbies (provided we get Salford) but it's influencing the table and better left to drawing from a hat.
As to the location, there's several reasons as to why it was moved, but my preference would be either Amsterdam or Faliraki please !!

| no to cardiff, long and tedious journey
no to london, go there already in the fixtures.
no to edinburgh.
no to dublin , far to expensive
so that leaves only the other suggestion of newcastle which everyone seems to pick.
