| I didn't say that John Clarke had completed 10 years, what I said was that he was pretty close to it.

mergers prove this! wire and widnes i ask you.. the man is a disgrace! you look at the game through tinted glassess!

Absolute rubbish.
Mo got the best deal ever for Rugby League. We're actually getting less from Sky now than we got back in 1996. Some Superleague clubs chose to fritter the money away.
Lindsay actually wanted to ringfence some of that money but it got voted out by chairmen for their own clubs interest.
As I said look at the International game when lindsay was in charge, we were playing at Wembley and Old Trafford with 50, 60 and 70,000 crowds.
If we had someone at the top now with his vision and drive the game would be in a lot better position. He was the only administrator the Aussies respected and listened to.
Don't forget it was Lindsay who brought in the salary cap, just to get back on topic.

| rogues, you don't see things the same way as me, thats for sure,
mo cornered us and all clubs by giving them a deadline for the whole package, forcing clubs to jump to the summer era.
i noticed he didn't think about merging wigan and leigh did he?
PSG what a great idea that was!
the fact we get less money now reflects on the current leadership.
your deluded if you think he put other clubs ahead of wigan!
Calder
cumbria
cheshire
i ask you, please
it would have killed RL

| Interesting point there. Yes it was Uncle Mo who brought in the Salary Cap. But didn't he then go on to break it?

Mo actually helped that.
The building of the Whitbread / Boston stand was under his tenure. The costs escalated out of all proportion as there was mining subsidy when the building of the stand began. It left a huge hole (excuse the pun) in Wigans finances.
Then when the ARL / Superleague war broke out in Australia there was a lot of silly money being offered to players to move over to Aus. You may remember that Connolly and Robinson were two who accepted contracts (although in the end they didn't go)
Wigan were dominant at that time, so had the players that the Aussies wanted. They had two choices, up the players wages to compete with the Aussie offers or let them go.
Jack Robinson (Mo had gone to the RFL ) and his directors at the time decided to pay the players more. That's how Wigan got into trouble so you could say that Mo was a big part of the attack on Wigan and not a defender.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and maybe Wigan should have let the players go and rebuilt the team again.
Saints around this time were buying the likes of Newlove, Sculthorpe, Sullivan, Nickle, Matautia, Martyn and Goulding.
The rest is history. It's difficult for you because of the Widnes / Warrington proposed merger, but some of them would have worked.
Cumbria is still crying out for a superleague team.
Where are those thousands of fans who marched at Wakefield, Cas and Fev. They are not attending the matches.
A combined Fax and Huddersfield side could have worked.
PSG was the wrong choice of location, it should have been Perpignan / Carcassonne, but it has worked there hasn't it.
Mo had a vision and passion for the game that very few of us can ever match, and as I said earlier he is the ONE administrator that the Aussies respected and listened to.
Who was it that thought of the World Club Championship?
Who took the test matches to Old Trafford and Wembley?
What I think happened was a deadline to get the Superleague money from Sky and it wasn't thought out as well as it maybe could have been.
Mo is a very interesting character to talk to if you ever get the chance, and he does not shirk any questions.
But you may not always like his answers. He loves the game of Rugby League.
I know it's a little off topic, but it is slightly related.

| Just a question in the so called tax issues.
Is it an issue with the Inland Revenue and not Super League. If so, and we are found to be guilty does that mean we will simply get a tax bill???

This ia a very much layman's perspective so don't take it as Gospel:
Max spend on the cap: £1.65 million excluding NI, but including other payments, ie; tax. If player A is earning £100k and you can get half of your tax liablity offset via image rights payments it is a simple way of getting more of your gross salary to nett.

I doubt it.

| you partly proved my point, mo had wigan in the forefront of his mind when the concept of superleague europe was formulated. he believed RL and more specifically wigan had outgrown it's competitors by buying up any and all players from their oposition and sticking some of them in the wigan a team rather than let them play for other teams.
the mergers were a stupid idea that would never have worked, sheffield and huddersfield proved that, aston reformed sheffield within months of the "merger"
face facts mo and wigan had placed RL in the position of a lamb being led to the slaughter of news international and murdoch!
he had one thing on his mind imo that was lining his back pocket and wigan RL, HE FORCED AND AT TIMES BLACKMAILED THE SUPERLEAGUE ERA INTO EXISTENCE! Fear of non inclusion forced teams to agree to terms that most professional sports would have laughed at.the professional game took second seat to the superleague hence it's current placement!now that the playing field is level wigan fans cry and pine for the golden days of mo! no other fans do...what does that tell you?

And therein lies the problem.
I believe there is a limit to the percentage, the IR are looking to make it 15%.
Also it is only applicable to overseas players, that is my understanding.
From what I am hearing some clubs have been paying up to 50% of salary as image rites and not just for overseas players.
It "should" all be clarified in the next three months.
