| Quote ="Asgardian13"Not tosh at all. You name seven players out of squad of what, twenty-five? Smith and Lauititi both well past their best even a few years ago, Collis solid but unspectacular, and the other five good but far from great. In any case, Agar did get you into the play-offs, right? I guess that he had nothing to do with that? I carry no torch for him but if you can't see that he was not managing a top-class squad then you're the one guilty of talking rubbish.'"
You're still talking rubbish. You said he didn't have any quality players to work with and that's simply not true. There were enough good players to make a top 8 side AS YOU STATE and a season on he's added more quality to the side. He should at the very minimum have maintained 8th but for me should have moved us to a comfortable 6th. Just accept the facts.
It's purely subjective as to whom you consider past their best but seeing as I doubt you watch trinity more than 3 or 4 times a year I suspect my subjective opinion is more factual than yours. Lauititi has been a great player for us over the past two seasons with no discernible loss of impact from his Leeds days, easily won us half a dozen games in that time. Tim Smith is an enigma, hugely talented and far from past it yet seemingly only able to play well for us - it happens.
I like Warrington but some fans like you are starting to show that arrogance that comes with some success. I like the way you've pushed into the big 4, it was needed. However if it is true that you're signing Agar it's a huge error on your part IMHO and I'd say that if every member of your squad were current Australian internationals. Agar is a nice enough bloke and reasonably knowledgeable but the absolute FACT remains he's bee an abject failure as a Coach - even at Hull where he had bucket loads of cash.
You have been warned.

| When a coach comes in that the fans are against from the start its very difficult for him, see McLeish at Villa, Souness at Newcastle etc. Any defeat will bring an avalanche of criticism and booing of the team and it creates an unhappy environment so if we do bring Agar in the board need to be aware of the difficulties it will create.
Agar's best chance of buying himself time would be to do some popular moves: release Asotasi and give GO'B a guaranteed starting role as halfback and Penny a guaranteed wing spot for a full season to at least give them a chance.

| Maybe the club has leaked this info out early the gauge the fans opinion on such an appointment.
if that is the case, may i say that MY OTHER POSTS WERE JUST A JOKE.. i don't want this guy anywhere near our Rugby Club.
If Smith does leave, and we need a stopgap coach for a few years, I would much prefer the club gave an ex player a shot. Briers or Hodgson.... if we are going to look at a coach with SL experience, then at least get one with some credibility in the game, like Noble.

My comments were the exact opposite of 'arrogant'. I'm suggesting that we are not so far ahead of Wakey that we should discount this rumour out of hand. Even so, you clearly missed the bits in my two posts when I made it clear that I do not support Agar as a coach at Wire? It's hardly surprising that I don't see the Wildcats as often as do you, but as a Wire fan I've seen plenty of mediocre sides take to the field and the world's greatest coach would not have got us into the top eight. The Wire team of the early 2000s, before we moved to the HJ, was better than any side fielded at Wakey under Agar. Did I blame the coach exclusively for our shortcomings? Certainly not, and if you'd open your eyes, instead of seemingly blaming everything wrong at Wakefield on one man, you'd be capable of understanding that.

| Martyn Sadler has tweeted that TS appears to have ruled himself out of the Dragons job.
Wonder if he's got something else lined up?
Could it be that he's going to be Lee Radford's assistant at Hull with a view to taking over at Hull for 2015?

| agar is big mates with tony smith so I expect he'll end up at wire in some capacity.
Quality coach. He took over a Hull side in 2008 that had finished 4th in 2007 and had us finish 11th (2nd bottom) in 2008 and 12th (3rd bottom) in 2009. He'll do a great job for you

| If Agar was assistant manager for the rest of the season, he'll learn enough to tweak his knowledge and continue to steer the ship.
I fear had he had taken over at the start of the season, we perhaps would be looking at a David Moyes scenario.
Smith Like Fergie would have had total support for a dismal season and the reason would be transitional.
I don't believe Agar would still be at Warrington by Easter had he had been at the helm.
Just saying.

| If Smith is to leave the head coach job at the end of this season, then the new guy needs appointing as asst now.
He needs to sign the type of players he wants to play his style not Smith's signings that might not suit the new coach.

| I consider being reserve coach at Wire a bigger job than a head coach at a club with no clout.
A bit like Harris at Wigan.
I'm quite sure he could have taken a number of jobs on at the foot of the table but he ain't as daft as Agar looks.

| Whilst my personal choice would have been Justin Morgan (I'm presuming this will be Smith's last year) I'm willing to give him a go. How many people said Shaun Wane would be a disaster for Wigan?

| Agar was a disaster at Hull.
The four seasons before he took over saw us finish 3rd, 5th, 2nd and 4th. In his four seasons we finished 11th, 12th, 8th and 6th. We never won a play off game under Agar (played two, lost two). We went three seasons without beating a Super League team in the Challenge Cup. Our record against Leeds/Saints/Wigan/Warrington/Huddersfield was played 38, won 6, drawn 1, lost 31. That included losing all ten games against Leeds.

You hardly came on leaps and bounds under Gentle, who will go down in the history books for presiding over the worst play off and Challenge Cup final performances in living memory. Then there are already plenty of calls for Radford's head. The problems at Hull FC go far deeper than the Head Coach.

True but Agar was particularly awful as Wakefield have discovered.

| I can't beleive what I'm reading.
Do you really want to entrust the development, the defining years of the Warrington careers of the superb bedrock of talent that is Currie, Laithwaite, Evans x 2 to a man with no proven pedigree?
Do you really want the man tasked with continuing Warrington's recent glorious history to be a man who is to success what Roy Asotasi is to hard yards?
Do you really want the man at the helm of one of the most gloriously entertaining and successful teams of the last five years to be a man with an unproven track record, who wasn't good enough for two lesser teams and has no pedigree of cup or league success?
You do? Appoint Agar in any capacity whatsoever, and wait for the sickening feeling of deja vu. I, on the other hand, believe we are amongst the best, and the best stay at the top by continual improvement.
We dont have to accept second best any longer.

Absolutely no reason why we can't approach the Aussies, it's one of the few areas Wire can actually compete in.

| Hopefully Reece Lyne and Danny Washbrook to follow!
If he does end up at Wire he may surprise us all and do well given the better quality of players they have, but on past evidence he will take you backwards. He is very knowledgeable about the game but his methods are truly bizarre and it won’t be long before you start finding players out of position, woeful edge defence and sheer baffling uses of the interchange bench. I was talking to a Wire fan at the recent game between the two who was laughing about the fact that Agar was playing Mathers out on the wing.

| Here's the plan.
Smith last time he signed a contract extension would not be drawn on the matter by the press and left it late to resign. It's a carbon copy again, Smith will stay at Wire as Director of rugby and coaching.
Agar resigns from a club mid term walking away from £100,000!? Bet your life he's coming to Warrington as a coach.
Monas said very openly he wants to stay at Wire in a coaching capacity...how could we refuse his services after his committal to Warrington. He'll be a coach too.
So in balance we have Marshall and Poaching in their position, man for man Agar and Monas would be seen as an improvement on the coaching side.
So I'm afraid Marshall and Poaching with be looking for another club.
If it smells like custard it's most probably custard.
