| Quote ="SEB"I'm thoroughly enjoying being a Wire fan at the moment. I've been going regularly since 86 - trust me there have been some long, lean, dark years where we could only dream about being a table topping, trophy winning team that could rack up big scores whilst playing well below our best! Yes, there's been a few bright spots along the way but we've never ever been as strong both on and off the field.
Yet people are moaning because at times there isn't enough singing / shouting / chanting / noise from a drum? Really?'"
Now this is the truth of it - swap 86 for 89 and you've got me and my opinion.

| I remember the Graham Steadman incident a little differently. Davies put up a high ball which did go very high and Steadman got nowhere near it, the crowd quickly picked up on the tension as the inevitable barrage of high balls came down on the by now hapless full back. The noise that the crowd made was deafening, I think that Cas took Steadman off in the end. I don't know why Steadman was playing full back though.

| Ahhhh the days of the fletch battering hell out of the corrigated iron. You could hear the atmosphere from bridge street, nerves jangling crossing the causeway.
No wonder players nicknamed it the zoo

| thats just it though, the HJ isnt the 'zoo' why? why couldn't the unbeatable atmosphere of wilderspool to the HJ? drums or no drums the fact of the matter is if the drum isn't banged majority of people dont sing which is sad. To many kids (I'm not sexist but majority in the south are young girls goin along because the lad she fancies goes, and they stand there taking up room texting. Then I as a proud and loyal supporter gets moaned at for squeezing through to my regular spot!?!? ) Without drums the atmoshpere would be poor with 30 people singing (if that) at any one time.
we get put to shame sometimes by the away fans. Whether we put 30+ on a team isnt the point yes, we're doing well but the players need to feel our passion. so come on Wire! lets make some noise! bring banners, bring horns anything that makes noise and creates atmosphere bring it. Imagine North, East and the South singing and bouncing it would be increadible! NOW is the perfect time to turn our atmosphere around!
Or the north and east could sit there in silence. Complain about the noise and how Wilderspool didn't need drums... Well I'm sorry but unfortunetly we're not at Wilderspool anymore, and yes unfortunetly drums are needed as part of the atmosphere whether you like it or not. lets forget the past and look forward in trying to make the HJ the new Wilderspool that is feared by players an fans to come to because of the noise we make.
With the new corners trapping sound as well we have the perfect place to do it!
Just a thought though

| No, in your opinion drums are needed. I don't sing, but you wouldn't like to stand next to me because I can make more noise than any bloody drum. You can be passionate about your team without singing.

I have to agree as I said wilderspool the corrigated iron helped as everyone clattered it and it reverberated around the whole ground and beyond now with lack of that we need to use our voices, drums anything that u can get your hands on. This is a rally cry lets get the 'zoo' roaring again.
Vuvuzellas anyone

If we can use our voices and only that then even better, well why not sing then? if you can make the noise then do. everyone should be!

| Perhaps it is the 'mix' of an RL crowd now that dampens the atmosphere compared to the 'good old days' with no disrespect towards the ladies and family spectators? Perhaps the fact that we don't have an end now and the difference which this enclosure and dynamic makes, compared to a popular side has had an impact (although it is great to give the boys the length of the field support)?
Perhaps it is a combination of both of these and a reluctance of people these days to start a song/chant off? I don't know what the answer is, but, I'm sure the players feed off an atmosphere so it is all for the common good. A group of what sounded like older fans in the SE corner started a "Warri Warri" off on Sunday in the second half and it was greated with a mixture of applause and embarrassed grins, oh dear (for the reaction not the singing).
Although I agree that we shouldnt get outsung by visitors, to compare away support to home support isn't that fair IMO, it's not just a numbers game. On an away day people tend to be a bit more committed, not going through the motions and have usually had a longer build up to the game, perhaps involving a few more beers on a coach to losen the vocal chords/shake off any inhibitions?

Yes away days to tend to be better and i do reckon its the few more beers that do it. It would just be nice to have a deafening roar when we get a try, and when people chant it lasts more than 15 seconds. many times I've joined in on the second verse and been left singing on my todd. I don't even want to blame new 'Glory' fans because its the people you've never seen before that are making most the noise.
Went into the looking glass after the game, (I ususally go in the kings head but i think I'm going to stay away from now on) and there were banners, flags balloons galore, looked fantastic. that sort of colour and passion needs to be taken to the stadium. I know the passion is there we just need to show it!

| I think it a tad embarrasing when the team come onto the feild there is no massive roar or noise, its more like polite clapping.

| May be the Saints game might stir up some emotion but I think Wakefield's visit will unfortunately be more of the same as Sunday along with all the others apart from Wigan and Widnes

| I was in the West on Sunday and to be honest it was like a Morgue from where I was stood apart from breaks and trys and even then there was only a little bit of shouting and clapping.
HKR never shut up but then neither do Wire fans at Away games.

| What was annoying me sunday was all kids just doing anything but watch the rugby. That and paying £14 to take my little lad who is only 5 years old.
I've said it before the atmosphere at the HJ has been in decline for the last couple of seasons.
Maybe we could ask the Wigan fans on where we are going wrong..
