I think that Tony Smith has picked Myler over Tomkins because;

1) Good experience for a player that may be a regular in the England team for a number of years.

2) No real risk as I could play in the halves and England would still win.

3) Tomkins has a habit of being wound up too easily and could end up costing his team dear (King in CC SF) and the French are masters at niggling certain types of players.

If the plays tomkins against aus and NZ its only a matter of time before he gets his head ripped off, he will go into the game thinking he is better than everyone else playing and will get put in his place, hes a good player dont get me wrong, but he wont have a impact on the game like he has done for wigan all year

I actually like Tomkins. He's a class player and in my view, may be a 1st choice half for years to come. He is though, too tempremental and maybe this is not the right game for him.

You take a look at the bigger picture, it was in Englands best interest to play Tomkins.

You talk about difference in opposition, chum, but can we just compare the Welsh side that Tomkins tore up last week to the French side tonight? You're looking at a side of rabbits-in-the-headlights part-timers in the Welsh against a team of superleague players who've spent the majority of the last two years playing alongside one another. And I'd agree - my point was in relation to the the fact that Wigan fans had already started comparing the French to the Aussies and Kiwis preemptively ahead of Tomkins getting a game. It's very easy to selectively compare one team against another.
