Saddened??? Is that you? Have you finally started supporting the Wire?
Anywho, positives:
1) Ratchford is good
2) Hill is amazing and is on track to being one of the best
3) We always looked like scoring when it mattered and crossed the line a few times
4) We were humbled (no one wins anything without being humbled)

| I thought Wire were pretty good last night and to say the game could have gone either way considering you were missing guys like Hodgson, Bridge, Monaghan and Harrison and lost your biggest threat on the night in Ratchford is pretty positive imo.
It looks obvious already that Wire, Leeds and Wigan will form 3 of the top 4 at the end of the year alongside one from Huddersfield or Catalans.

Not a knee-jerk reaction at all. I said at the time, he was over-rated and vastly over-priced, and the only person laughing about it was Martin Offiah. Ask any Salford fan and they'll tell you we bought the wrong player from them at the time, it was Stefan Ratchford who carried that team. And whilst he was at Widnes, he stood out in a pee-poor team. If he was a winger, I could understand his ( lack of ) work rate, but not as a halfback. No wonder Briers always looks knackered, he's carried Myler for more than a season.

| Plenty of positives last night.
Our defensive structures are very sound, we gave Leeds a tonne of ball and still nearly came away with the spoils. We ended up with two backrowers at centre & wing so of course our attack wasn't going to be cutting edge stuff but we've plenty of strike coming back in that respect with Bridge, Ratchford, Hodgson, Monas, even Solomona.
The 'younger' players are all standing up, Riley, Hill, Cooper, McCarthy etc. It's some of the established players that need to click a gear, currently Carvell and P.Wood are undeserving of their places. I'll throw Joel Monaghan in too, I'm not really seeing a test back in him, I just don't think he carries enough threat to me. He wouldn't fear me, apart from maybe 10 out.
Not so much for the dropped ball, but I reckon that's our best performance this season, we were better last night than when we beat Huddersfield, we just played a good team, they we're 8 points better than us, take away Myler's brainfart they were a gaol better. I reckon with the playing ranks back at full strength we've an extra try or two in us so I wouldn't be too concerned.
I really don't think we need to panic. Tighten up 10% with the ball, get one or two bodies back on the field, not that the ones there are poor, just that the ones coming back you that extra something. The people we're missing are the ones that seperate good teams from great teams, who have the special plays in them, without them we're a good team, no more.
Last night's performance would have beaten anyone else in SL, it nearly was good enough for Leeds. Throw in that we conspired against ourselves, no panic.

| Positives:
Chris Hill, Chris Riley, Steffan Ratchford in spells + our goaline defence in the main which looked strong, obviously a couple of individual errors cost us..
Negatives:
Too many to mention, lets just say when we don't have Michael Monaghan we seem to lack direction and organisation. Richie Myler seriously needs to up his game especially against the stronger sides, when Lee Briers isn't quite on his game we need Myler to be asking some questions instead of standing back and hoping someone else can do it.

| I thought there were a few positives to last night's game.
Firstly, Leeds had enough possession to win that game by 30+, but our defence was once again, excellent for large parts of the game. We also looked like scoring almost every time we were near the Leeds line (unfortunately, not too often)! Chris Hill was once again excellent and I think he's got a really bright future.
We have, however, been giving away far too much possession to teams this season. I also thought the last tackle options were fairly poor last night. Leeds did a great job on closing down Briers and Myler had a poor game. Still, that should improve when Monaghan and Hodgson come back into the team.

The old winger conundrum again......Seems to me that most wingers can't win with whatever they do.
Kevin Penny, major threat with ball in hand, dire in defence.....Joel Monas, steady and reliable, though limited threat in attack, sound defensively.
What do you do??....A combination of the two would be the perfect Rugby League winger, unfortunately, the world isn't perfect.
Personally, I think Joel has a touch of the Fa'Filli's in him.....He needs a top class centre to make him look better - Blythe, though a good, reliable player, isn't a winger's centre, he's the battering ram type, who will only throw desparate passes to his outside partner and that showed last night.
Joel looks better outside Bridge, though even he isn't upto Gleeson's class, who made Henry look positively decent.....If Bridge isn't there, and you want to make Joel a threat, I think he needs Rhys Evans next to him, rather than Blythe.

Juan Sebastian Veron was a talent who cost a lot of money but it didn't stop Fergie getting rid when he didn't perform.

| Let me think????
Last season didn't we beat Leeds twice in the league ..... and it didn't stop them going to win the GF
They didn't give in
When will we stop having a dig. We are now in a position where we know on any given day we can compete and beat the likes of Wigan Saints and Leeds and they can do the same to us
What we need to do is win the right matches

Okay, so we have established that WArrington Wolves is about as valuable and recognisable as Manchester United. However how do you combat the bit about Myler being young and talented???

Veron was a pile of e, end of. Just ask Chelsea, too.
Myler is a great player, who "fluffed-up" a simple clearance
To want to get rid of him (as an earlier poster does) is just plainly pathetic.
As I said previously,......only in Warrington

Getting rid of Veron was a mistake IMO.
Veron wasn't a total flop he was more like Paul Rauhihi was for Warrington. Not overall what we had hoped but when you look at his full record he didn't do badly and he had some big games.
Fergie had seemed to have a lot of faith in Veron when he was at United, the reasons he gave for moving him on were that Chelsea had offered good money and he was worried about having too many central midfielders on the books, he had brought in Djemba Djemba and Kleberson and was looking at those two plus Fletcher as being the United central midfield for the future.
Unfortunately Djemba Djemba and Kleberson turned out to be crap for United and Scholes had injury problems and Keane was at the end of his career so United then spent the next three seasons in the shadow of Arsenal and Chelsea with a weak central midfield before Fletcher matured and Carrick and Hargreaves were brought in.

Only thing missing was a Wire win.
Too much trying to score on every set. Hold the ball and control the game. I would like to see O'Brien with Briers for a few games to see if there is more of a spark than there is with Myler. Theres just something about Myler that niggles me. Having the pair in the 17 every week maybe nudge that we need.

| Not to detract from the Veron debate...
But from a Leeds perspective, I thought it was an entertaining game which will have done both sides some good as the season progresses. Neither side is really up to speed yet, and both will play a lot better this year. So the result, aside from the 2 points (which are good to have, but not going to make our season or break yours) doesn't really matter, particularly since you had players out and the match could have gone either way.
I was impressed (mostly ) with Micky Higham, who got through stacks of work to make up for the absence of (IMO) the best #9 in the league. Your defence was outstanding, if a little over-worked at times. You made too many errors, but as I think someone alluded to earlier, if you play that style of rugby and the passes stick, somebody is going home on the wrong end of a cricket score. The trick will be to do it in October. Carvell was garbage, but he isn't usually, so no sense in getting too worked up about that. Everyone has off days.
I remain a bit unconvinced by Myler from what I've seen. But then again I don't see him every week. I saw a bit of Salford when they were both there and Ratchford always looked the class act to me. I may be wrong though.
My biggest disappointment was not seeing Evans at centre. What do you think his prospects are for getting first team game time this year? He looks to have all the tools for a top centre, which is not something you can say of many English centres.

Right, let's check out that little pearl of wisdom shall we:
2011 stats
Richard Myler Lee Briers
Appearances 24 21 Appearances
Tries 16 16 Tries
Try assists 12 19 Try assists
Meters 1279 1165 Meters
Carries 258 225 Carries
Tackles 317 199 Tackles
Offloads 10 12 Offloads
Attacking Kicks 37 133 Attacking Kicks
Runs from dummy half 12 19 Runs from dummy half
Tackle Busts 29 39 Tackle Busts
Marker tackles 34 20 Marker tackles
Clean Breaks 16 12 Clean Breaks
Kicks in general play 46 196 Kicks in general play
Missed tackles 44 32 Missed tackles
Errors 26 28 Errors
Penalties 15 9 Penalties
Now, I'm not saying Richie is anywhere near the quality of Lee yet, but to suggest Richie is not putting the effort in resulting in fatigue to Lee is ridiculous.

| It's true that we would have beaten most other SL teams based on how we played on Friday ...Trouble is it's the few that you won't beat playing like that are the teams we need to turn over to win stuff.
We have a problem this season, and it's the amount of time we're in e position defending our line. Thankfully we're very good at it. But even so, we need to do what we've done the last 3 seasons under Smith, and that's starting our set away from our line and forcing teams to kick on the last from their own half.
Monaghan will help that but it's a growing concern.
