| Joel has a better try return, Hicks scored 71 in 81 Appearances, whereas obviously Joel has played more and kept his try tally above his games played. But then Hicks could kick, and played in a worse? team...

| Both great players, why do we need to try to compare them as the style of play is completely different?
I feel privileged that they both have worn the P&B and agree with the original post we certainly miss JM when injured or rested!

| Quote ="Barbed Wire"Joel all day long!! Joel could, has and does finish tries that very few players in the world can. Add that to strong defence and great kick return metres. This year too, he has stood up as a leader, especially earlier in the year when we were on the back foot.
I can't remember Joel having an average game, never mind a bad one.'"
joel's had a few iffy patches, i think at the start of 2011, or even 12 when people said his pace had gone, he had been burned off on a few interceptions or dropped balls, and once or twice he had picked up loose balls and got caught quite easily.
Also in terms of try returns, Spider had to play full back for a period in 2008.
the prospect of joel at centre and hicks on the wing? wow

| I would have loved to see Joel at centre with hicks on the wing outside him. They have both been quality players for wire, great signings.

I'm not going to choose between them as they have both been tremendous players that have completely different styles. Can't disagree with Rico's all time choice for the other wing (I presume it's players he's seen play for the Wire). JB was absolutely magnificent from the day he signed.

Correct Teesside, I was basing my selection on watching rather than reputation, (obviously real old timers like Winslade would be plumping for Bevan B) and both Bevan and Hicks had my spirits lifted time after time and it's no disrespect to Joel Monaghan at all

I also had the pleasure of watching John Bevan from the day he signed for the club and he was a terrific player, not the quickest winger by a long way but with great positional skill, a killer swerve and, of course, that freaky strength that could see him put the ball down even with three of four tacklers holding him up. The one who we brought through who had great potential - never really fulfilled - was Rick Thackray. Anyone recall what ended his career?

Playing for Widnes?
Seriously though, my first game Thackray and Phil Ford were on the wings on a wet winters's afternoon playing in the mud at Wilderspool against Bradford. We won, but don't remember much of the game as I couldn't see very much, but do remember both wingers scoring tries in front of the us in the Fletcher end.

Mark "fearless" Forster?
Andrew Ettinghausen? A Donkey
Mark Preston? Slower than an ice age
Foz was the king of the intercept and took on all the heirs to the title and remained the fastest man in world RL, until some gangly ex-RU nobody came along.

As did ....
Neil "Crafty" Kenyon (whose smoking habit put Keith Richards to shame)
Kevin Meadows
Mateaki Mafi

I just never got it with Andy Currier.
He was the catalyst and goal kicker in the (NRL) Winfield Cup a couple of seasons before he joined us.
He just wouldn't have it. Its obvious from him being a Smelly, he hated being at Warrington.
Some fans give Big Roy a dig...
Some fans gave Steve Roach a dig...
...but these guys look to be pulverising stone into dust compared with Andy Currier.
A complete disgrace to P&B.

And yet, Manoa (and presumably Mrs Manoa) had sufficient ball-eye co-ordination to produce Jarryd Hayne. Yes, the Kangaroos international is Manoa's son.
Maybe we signed the wrong parent, we should have signed Jarryd's mum since he clearly didn't inherit his RL ability off his old fella.

| I'm amazed Gaskell got 12 as he only ever ran sideways. Ooof Jason Roach - who brought that up? He'll give me nightmares....do i remember him scoring 4 in a game once though? Was it his debut in a pre-season friendly....that could all be very wrong but it rings a bell.
Monaghan and Hicks is a tough one, I'd plump for Joel (JUST!)

| roach was top try scorer in the league for the first half of 99, then he smacked chris smith of saints after he scored against us then wasn't really seen in the first team again.
Mind Fozzie, Toa and Hunty all had decent try returns that year.
