| Quote ="Dita's Slot Meter"Out of interest, and mainly because I often see figures bandied around on here, but do we actually have any confirmed figures on what individuals at any club are being paid, or is it just guesswork on the part of people who post on here?
I mean, what is 'superstar money' and what's your average SL player earning?'"
as mentioned above the expected average salary is about 80k
i would say 140k is top star money.
Once you get above 150(depending on home or overseas) you're in marquee territory, "superstar" wages(with superstar expectation)
You know what the irony here is, we keep getting told that we should invest in youth, because long term its cheaper than buying imports or signing from outside, yet here we've invested in youth, we've got an England international, current dream team player, and probably currently the best centre in the league, and we might be getting priced out of keeping him. and not to the nrl either.
Are we being a bit precious, different positions, but compare current top line king, with 2015/16 ben currie, he probably was on about 120k+ as being one of the best backrowers in the league (ing acl tears ) we wouldn't have begrudged him that contract at the time. Should we now with King?

| Marquee Player – Each Super League and Championship Club is permitted to have two Marquee Players whose Salary Cap value is limited to £150,000 (or £75,000 if Club Trained);

| Toby isn't a superstar, his defence can sometimes lapse and he could do with a bit more speed, but we all know that the standard of rugby league has dropped significantly over the past few years and that leaves him as one of the best UK centres. So if you wan't to keep him you have to pay up. Since he came through our Academy I would hope we keep him, god knows we have had too few players coming through to the first team without losing any.
I wonder if this rumour of a £140K offer has come from Huddersfield. They always have a bit of cash and it would allow him to return home.

Forgive my ignorance - so do Austin and Widdop take up 300k on our salary cap and then have extra on top of that, which doesn't count on the cap, and, if so, what's the most you can pay on top, or is it unlimited?

| Just checked, we also get a mighty 5k dispensation as he's club-trained.
Negotiate him down to 120k, becomes 115k on the cap. Probably on par with our better players.
Job's a good'un.

Marquee players could be paid a billion pounds a week and it'll still only count as £150k on the cap.
It's presumed that Clark takes up the most cap space, as he's not marquee.

So, theoretically, if you had unlimited funds, you could offer the 2 best players in the world millions to come and play here?
To be fair to Duckie, it's amazing what knowledge you can pick up when driving a cab around town.

Not a bad shout Charles for a possible alternative destination. Close to home a club with a bit of cash, a new coach and although obviously I've no idea about who's in and out of contract maybe a replacement for Leutele if he's due to leave/not happy and who won't be on tuppence ha' penny.

It’s definitley come from Hull KR. Shaun Kenny-Dowell is on a wedge and he’s leaving which frees up a lot of cash and a centre spot.

| Well whoever it is we surely will not be struggling with our salary cap next year with the 'loss' of Akauola, departure of Clark plus one or more of Widdop / Clark D / Austin. I suppose no club will be rolling in cash after the ravages of Covid but the club must be able to pay for King ?

| True, the club may feel they are being ripped off. But they would need to find a suitable replacement, and possibly pay a transfer fee.. I guess they will look at the problem from both sides before deciding.

| I'd be incredibly dissapointed with the club if they let Toby King go for wage reasons, they were happy enough to pay latu last season and asotasi a few years back, king has at times been a shining light and I'd imagine a player that Powell would want in his squad. The question they need to ask is could they bring in a better player for less money? It's doubtful isn't it really. We need to get him signed up and soon.

Spot on. The club have shot themselves in the foot over what they’ve paid players in the past. We paid Tyrone Roberts 300k. No wonder King wants 140k+.

Maybe he is motivated by the challenge of being part of a project with an ambitious club on the rise rather than just sitting in comfort zone at a big club, like Martin Gleeson joining us from Saints.

| We should keep him and i'm shocked we let him get in to the last year of his contract. He'll keep getting better over the next few years so it would be daft to let him go.
King and Mata'utia in the centres next year i'd be happy with, Widdop and Trueman in the halves, and keep Daz would be the dream. Keep Hill coming off the bench and pick up Tom davies as a replacement for Lineham and we're looking solid next year

Yeah, couldn't agree more. One of the best all-round wingers in the game and doesn't get the credit he deserves. I hope he's not enjoying the South of France too much and wants home. I was shocked that Wigan let him go as I thought he was better than Marshall, even if he wasn't quite as quick.

| We simply have to keep Toby King. To let him go another SL club would be pure negligence in my opinion. He’s probably the most inform player in the country at the minute.

He's been one of the most in form players in the league for at least 18 months now.
Tom Davies on the wing is a good shout, depending on what we are doing with Lineham and how he goes about improving his discipline when (if) he gets back in the team.

| I wouldn’t swap Tom Lineham for any winger in the league. He is the big game winger. I’d hate it for another club to have him, just you can’t trust him anymore.

| I'd swap Tom Lineham for several wingers in the league, but probably none that we can afford within the salary cap. And I'm a fan of his try scoring ability.
