One tip I'd give from our last few trips is avoid taxis down to the stadium! We've been stuck in traffic around the city centre for ages for the last two years and ended up with them trying to charge us £30+ as the metre was running (we did manage to get them down though).

We're going straight over to Chorlton for a few drinks this time and avoiding the centre pre match so we can get the met back the other way.

I haven't used the train for the GF before, what time do the queues start forming at Central? Are they bad before noon?

Last time we went, it was noon and it was busy on the platform, and a short train, not many carriages, we were hearing later on in the day from mates joining us that there was queues out of central station along winwick st, also ppl trying to get on at padgate and birchwood being turned away, had to wait a couple of hours and only got to old trafford just as the game was kicking off.

I'd say noon is the latest time to go before it'll get hectic, bank quay might be an option, if you don't mind a longer journey

I know last time i tried to get the train from Newton for the GF i finished up going home & getting the car out instead. In t hose days there were only two coach trains available, the one from Liverpool to Manchester & the one from Bank Quay to Manchester.The Liverpool Manchester service now uses four coach trains though.

I remember getting the 12.25 train from bank quay in 2011. We got a taxi to the station and went passed central, the queue was already at the bottom of the steps. In contrast to bank quay where there were about 10 people on the platform.

That was our first grand final and people might of wised up to bank quay a bit more now though.

I recommend Thaikhun at Spinningfields. Very reasonably priced Thai street food, but very busy so be prepared for a little wait.

Don't leave it later than 12 to get there. I know loads who ended up getting taxi's from central to old Trafford they were waiting that long. the trains afterwards are equally as much as a joke.

It would be quicker getting a train from Leigh or Culcheth station.

How long are you going back? Culcheth Railway Station closed in 1964!

Yes I know. You could catch the train to Wigan or Manchester from Newchurch Station

Got the train from Central in 2012, bout 2pmish. It was fine, most people had left for OT by then. Went into Manchester and got the metro back to OT, it was packed and looked like all the pubs along the way were busy too. Ending up getting a couple of cans from the offy on Chester road, about £2 a can from what I remember. Left OT and walked back to Trafford park to get the train back to central. What a crush! Everyone of course left the same time and wanted to get back to Warrington. The driver announced he shouldnt actually have stopped as the train was already full but he didnt want to leave so many people behind. Very good of him but it was hard to breathe at times. Got the coach in 2013, much easier. Will probably drive this year and hopefully celebrate with a beer in the evening in the town .
Oh and by the way there wont be any parade of trophy(s) on Sunday, I just rang the club to ask as we have a 250 mile drive back to Portsmouth. We would have stayed in Warrington all day if that had been the case.

Might just beat the queue and jump on at Sankey....

I personally wouldn't risk it and get on at Liverpool

For the public transport user for Saturday ,are you all aware of the Wayfarer tickets that are available from the station that will cover train, bus & tram journeys in Manchester for the day in question. £12 for adults £6 concessions & i think there are special rates for family groups. Tickets are valid from Warrington & cover all Greater Manchester.

The way people are talking it will be like one of those trains you see in India with people hanging off the roof.

Get an express to Liverpool train out, bailing at Widnes, getting an express back?

I'm genuinely surprised at some of the posts here - isn't Manchester just 20 miles away, or half an hour on a clear run? Have that many Warringtonians really not been there before?

I agree shiny and whilst pub/restaurant ideas might be handy or the odd tip on parking it's like the Final has been suddenly replanned to take place in Timbuktu

I think Hull have got a very good side. Cas will improve as their injury record was the worst of the lot this season but Catalans will drop so indotnnseenwhy Hull can't get in the top 4 again.

The proper pubs are the best places in Town, especially during the day (even though the bars are more popular)

No probably about it I've a few pubs in Eccles lined up then a tram or cab through Trafford Park. The getting back is the tricky bit but this year hopefully we will all be skipping along with Winners are Grinners faces
