Although in my job, I'd probably be thinking of ways to defeat the union (and Lefty), I know in my heart that the government's policy towards the Royal Mail is not one I support. Therefore I support the strike. For those of you who complain about it affecting you...well, that's the point. It wouldn't be much use if no one noticed!

The Royal Mail will at some point go the same way as the Coal Industry and British Steel unless they change , I hope they go on permanent strike as it will mean no bills ! E-mail killed the RM not the government or the RM bosses whom are trying to keep it competitive in an ever shrinking market they should except the changes and move on before others step in and take more business off them imo !

I know you are, I don't know enough about the arguments from both sides to make comments on the rights or wrongs of it. All I have really heard is the posties side of things.

If you have sent that special delivery and recorded then there is no excuse for it as there have been no strikes this week yet. You should complain and get a full refund.

I just hope for everyone involved a compromise that both parties are happy with is reached sometime soon.

Parcels have more than doubled in the past few years and the average weight of a letter has also increased significantly to online magazine subscriptions and catalogues.

This is where some clever spin comes in from the governments point of view. They keep mentioning this 10% drop in LETTERS. What they fail to inform the public of is where the output has increased. Whether or not the parcel increase compensates for the letter shortfall I don't know but I bet it goes a long way towards.

Don't forget the Royal Mail also changed it's pricing structure to include size as well as weight to maximise profit from larger items.

Totally agree with the above. I only started the thread to provoke debate about a very topical issue that seems to be affecting most people in some way. To have the thread hijacked in this way is both appalling and alarming.

And if the mods have anything about them they would ban the idiots who seem to think its acceptable talking about those brave soldiers in that way.
