The PNG SL players really standing out in this game.
Tai having a solid game, Fiji running his side and defence held up every time, and helped Derby take 2 interceptions bring up tries.

Meme McDonald has been superb in attack.
Little Lammy and Rhyse Martin have been great too.

Fiji Naqama and even Waga Blake looking among their best.

Are Tai or Russell in the PNG 17 man squad?

Tai played Russell didn’t.

Fiji attacked Rod’s usual right side and couldn’t score.
Then in the second period they swapped Tai to left centre after Fiji scored twice down that side, the Fijian brief fight back was halted yet again.

What was quite worthy of note was the Commentary Team's hype up of Rodrick Tai prior to the game. We have a world star in our midst! They love him.

Incredibly one-sided to say it was first against second. Toulouse didn't look like they would score if they had played until midnight!

The highlight probably being Max Jowitt becoming the first player in British rugby league history to score 500 points in a season although I had to smile at Jermaine McGillvary being offered, accepting and kicking the final conversion from near to the touchline minutes before retiring from playing the sport.

Great atmosphere, it’s took long enough

their best 80 minutes all season, hopefully get into SL and make a better fist of it

Dan Russell starts in the back row for PNG vs Cook Islands on Sunday, so we’ll get to see how he goes on.

Grunt of a game here for round one! Keighran being a grub again, and plenty of forearms round necks from Wardle and Farrell with nothing being said.

Brilliant, get Michael Buffer over, have all the fireworks and smoke and lights and music, but you can't start the clock for extra time. Classic Rugby League shambles.

You wouldn't see Wigan: - Not being able to operate a clock - Being nilled at home

Leigh never looked like scoring up till that drop goal. Was a good defensive game, did not need to be a blow out score for either team

Wire strike first with GOB. GOB and Hughes were immense for me.

Still thought golden boy French was gonna pinch it when Leigh got tired, so credit to them for keeping him quiet. Did anyone hear them mention how long it is since Wigan conceded? I don't think Dave Woods mentioned it enough!

It was an ok game for the start of a season. Can’t really look to deep into it, I did think the atmosphere was very flat at times for such a big crowd.

Really enjoyed that, play that game in round 5 and I’m sure there would be points, but enjoyed it considering it was a nil nil. I’d also (remake) the point that 1 point each for the draw would have been more than good enough and a fair end to the game. Keep the golden point for cup / play off (though I’m not sure Cokey will agree right now lol, congrats

Wigan's success recently has been largely based on defence, smothering the opposition out of the game and waiting for Field or French to come up with something. If not for them two they're pretty ordinary.
