Dissapoined he wasnt offered anything at all but we definitely need to be spending the cap better and I expect him to be a good earner at the club so it's not that surprising.

Looks like there has been a lot of work to do for the people making the decisions on recruitment and retention and looks like it could be quite a big turnover at the end of this year although only a couple confirmed at present.
Probably some difficult conversations have been had over the past weeks and months and I suppose we will never know how much those conversations have influenced our performances.
I know they are all professional athletes and no matter how professional you are, if you are told you will no longer be required it must be hard to stay fully focused.
There is sometimes threads on here about players improvement in the last year of their contract then they get a juicy 3 year contract and down tools. I never really bought that and it looks like it will not be the case this year.
Just hope that a lot of this business is concluded soon so we can move onwards.

I think if Coops goes it will be a shame based on his 100% on field commitment. If he wanted to stay surely another year would be appropriate. It would be sad if he is going because he is one of the alleged 'bad eggs' as he has given his all to Warrington and still does. Sounds like the pack is getting a much needed refresh though which has to be a positive.

I don't understand the Wrench to wing plan though. He's a centre, a bloody good one by all accounts. Playing him on the wing won't develop his centre skills, they could arguably regress.

If someone a little more in the know corrects me and tells me he's an out and out winger who moved inside in the last couple if years I'll be a bit happier.

Agree, useful wing cover but needs time at centre to develop for the long term. However, playing on the wing is better than not playing, it will still help him to get used to the physicality and speed of first team rugby and he will get a better understanding how his teammates operate in first team matches.

I do get the "playing better than not playing" argument, it's a fair and decent one.

I do wonder if this is more a move against Charnley than a move for Wrench but he's showing the right attitude by saying "yes boss"

Overall I've enjoyed having Charnley in the P&B (having 'hated' him in C&W) and I think he's been decent value. Recently though, chances especially down our right seem to have dried up so I'd err on cap space balance, contract length and giving youth a chance above a rift and pure performance for his departure.

Although it was common knowledge that he wasn't being retained (it must be common if I'd heard it) and was spoken about quite openly at an evening for Hill at St Ben's a couple of years ago.

I agree with Philth, that trio at the back is "lightning" and in addition not without rugby talent.

Strange one really isn’t it. If it is to be believed, he was shopped around last season, but then gets first crack at the whip this year, scores lots of tries and we all get excited that he’s back to being a potent threat, then that’s it, he’s dropped one week and out of the door the next.

I like Wrench though, he’s a bright talent, he needs to play somewhere. But I’d argue that Charnley has been more effective than King. So why not drop a centre and play a centre in the right position.

I suppose we’ll see whether or not this is a leap of faith for Wrench or if that is just Powell spinning a narrative when Minikin becomes available. If he’s thrown by the wayside at the first chance, we can all make the determination that it’s nothing more than Powell and Charnley falling out.

Concerned though, Charnley, while not a world beater with us, has been strong and consistent (not try scoring, but certainly on kick returns and making ground from our end). Cooper has, according to reports, fallen out with Powell. I hope this isn’t going to be a pattern.

You're keen on signing Darrell Olpherts to replace Charnley according to rumours this morning.

I don't see that as progress, although he'll be cheaper than Charnley. But he'll be 31 by the start of next season.

Don't think he will come here if Dufty signs, otherwise there is no place for Thewlis in our 1st team.

Olpherts would be cheap, but not an inspired signing.

I don't agree with that at all, in regards to it obviously means they've fallen out. Charnley will be on a good wage, and alot of tries he scores could be scored by most other wingers about who would be on a much lower wage. Fair enough he does score some brilliant tries but the vast majority he scores Minikin could score himself for much less money. For me it just makes more sense as a business to pay less money for pretty much the same results, and that saved money can be allocated elsewhere. Not saying there might not be a falling out as it's a possibility, but i think it's purely business.
