If that means that he'll play him again then I'm more than happy!
I thought Silverwood's reasoning for not sin binning him for the spear tackle was an absolute joke too, and Wane trying to take him off before Silverwood could speak to him shows that even Wane thought he was off for me.

| I wonder what his team mates must think, all that effort and his "mistakes" essentially cost them the game. If he gets bans for both the incidents would they be consecutive and concurrent?
This may be OTT but given he may have cost his team 2 points tonight, the Wigan fans might be hoping for the former...

| Lauaki was stupid last night (in his second spell) but to be fair to him he had only conceded two penalties all season prior to the game, and one of them was thumping Ryan Bailey (so that shouldn't really count )
I enjoyed the game last night it was full on battle. The better team lost but that's the way it goes sometimes. Our discipline was poor in that last 20 minutes.
There's a lot of discussion about taking the two from penalties. Correct decision IMO. Just look at when we didn't take them and Tommy L dropped the ball about 10 metres out, that for me was the turning point of the game.
Oh and Briers was offside, the players have to be behind the referee.
Have fun.

Not content to have been shown his backside on the Wigan forum for this, apparently Rogue's wants to be shown up on the Wire board too.
[urlhttp://therfl.co.uk/a_guide_to_the_game/official_laws/11_tackle_and_playtheball[/url
Not at any point does it say that the defenders must be behind the referee.
It does say this though:
Quote Indicating ten metres The Referee should usually position himself ten metres behind and to one side of the point at which the ball is played as a guide to the team not in possession. If tackling is excessively keen or play is unnecessarily rough, the referee may forsake the ten metres position in order to be nearer the players involved in the tackle.'"
Basically, and for those of the hard of hearing, the referee is the arbiter of the 10m and while he may usually stand 10m back, he's the man to decide and his position shouldn't be taken as the definitive indicator of the 10m.

It doesn't seem to say what you think it does. The ref can either stand 10 metres back where the defensive line should be or stand closer to the ruck. He can't stand behind the defensive line. Although going off what Silverwood has been like this year, he was probably just out of position.

Can you point out to me where it says the players have to behind the referee? Cheers.
The ref should stand back 10m, it does indeed say that. Does it say that his standing position marks the 10m? No, it does not.

It doesn't, but in this case Silverwood was marking the 10 metres so that's irrelevant. Briers was offside.

ok i'll bite.
McIllorums try was an the back of a clear voluntary tackle by Farrell.
Your try at the start of the second half was directly as a result of a clear obstruction by eye-gouging thug on blythe.
We were terrible. We have been all season, but we have only lost to the world and superleague champions, on that night we were probably as bad as we have been under tony smith in terms of ball retention. Yet we were right in it until the last few minutes.
Pretty good eh?
Anything else ?

Sam tompkins knocks it forward from a bomb under his sticks and it's play on?

Exactly.
If he gave the mark why was only Briers apart from the markers in front of him? We hear it all the time in commentary, both here and in Aus "The refs keeping a skinny / big 10"

| let's face facts here. Briers was offside. he got away with it. we won.
Please let a wigan fan explain how lauaki was not yellow carded for his second on report offence whee he dumped blythe.
the only reason he didn't dump him on his head is because blythe tucked in to protect himself

He should have been sin binned for leading with the forearm before that (unless it was a bad one, in which case he should have been sent off). The second on report offence should have given Silverwood a good idea that he should have taken the cards out of his pockets.
Of course Westwood should have seen red for running in and throwing a punch into the tackle. It was slightly amusing that he hit his own man, but it is still an offence to punch your own player.
Silverwood was just plain awful. Both sides benefited and suffered at the hands of his poor officiating. I thought he was genuinely the best ref in the competition last year but this season he's been dreadful, making poor decisions, inconsistent and also out of position quite often.

I think Wigan scored after Hock took out a defender, allowing Tomkins to shoot the gap.

Well done on the win, nothing in the two teams, you won one stat and that was the score board, but unfortunately its the one that mattered.

Bit like the clear obstruction in the build to Richard's try or Farrel voluntary tackle, swings and roundabouts

| Sky have the technology to overlay a clear indication line between the touch lines to show whether a player is offside in football - why don't they do this for the RL coverage? Especially when juding onside/offisde for kicks. Also, the rule book says the referee should indicate the 10 metres, Silverwood had the players back on to the half way line, and yet the PTB clearly is at least 1 metre past the 40m line. The question is, does the JJB have a 'short' gap between 40m and halfway lines like Wilderspool did/does? If it doesn't, then Silverwood got the mark for 10m wrong. If it does, then yes, Briers was offside.

Wrong. Read the rules. The player has to be ten metres from the play of the ball, not behind the ref. Briers was ten metres from the ptb whereas the ref and the rest of the Wire team were 12m from the ptb. He wasn't offside by the rule book!

So why did EVERY Wire player barring Briers and the markers stay behind the ref?
The ref makes the mark. I've shown you the rules.
You win some, you lose some. It just happens that Wire have had two big calls in their favour in the last two weeks. Hopefully it'll even out.

Ok say he was offside fair enough, it even itself out because in the lead up to Richard's try there was a clear obstruction when Hock? cleaned Blythe out and Tomkins went through the gap where Blythe had been.
Then you also have the voluntary tackle by Farrell, 2 big calls go Wigan way and you still couldn't win
