Lets face it the only way an expansion is going to happen if we are consistently selling out the stadium. So far this season attendances have been good but only 1 game has sold out. If we were to sell out a few more times, that's probably when the directors will make the decision to get thye loan that will be needed for the expansion.

Salford fans, who sang far louder all game without one than I heard our fans sing at any point with one, owning the South Stand.

I don't like to agree with a mob that basically sing Man United songs with a couple of word changes for eighty minutes, but as I absolutely hate the drums and the South Stand in general I'm with them here. I'm not gonna be hypocritical, I rarely sing and that's unlikely to change unless our song book drastically improves and I'm not literate enough to write the improvements. However, the fact that constant posts on here about atmosphere constantly revolve around the position/speed/variation of the drummers prompts me to post. Here's a good idea - ban all drums and other creators of fake atmosphere and just plain sing your heart out. Trust me, it's a winner.

I'll take the successful side over the singing fans any day of the week.

Funny you say salford fans sang louder than ours...when you was stood at the side of them. Said it loads of times imo the atmosphere relates to the game and team we play. I think the drums are good and if you went to away games you would hear them and the fans singing with them. Keep the drums and ban the boring hypocrits in the west stand who want the drums baning,dont sing but say the atmosphere will be better........I'll stay in the south stand with the drums and the singing leave the west to the ....... away fans

Im not one of the drummers and never want to be but while you are having a pop at them try to remeber this,Those drummers are the ones who follow the club thick and thin home and away, Hats off to you and keep on banging

I don't sing these days because its the same couple of cringeworthy songs EVERY time.
There has been some new stuff thrown about but no one tends to know it.

It baffles me that when the atmosphere is always bad, the South Stand always seems to get the blame? It's not exactly been carnival central in the North Stand and the East Stand either.

I can't comment on the age thing squire as I'm 38, but the songs (when you can hear them) make me cringe especially "Barmy Army" or "She wore" sung out of context. Then the false adoration of newly signed players.

Then again I'm a luddite who used to like "Gimme a W" with a huge "EEEEeeee".

I thought the Salford fans were excellent in their vocal support and variety when taking into consideration the respective league positions.

It is mate, but it is what it is. The Bevan (seating) was hardly rocking at Wilderspool. You need a 'Spion Kop'* type standing environment to get the singing going. I think stand depth, as opposed to width is the key and this is magnified by importance/rivalry of the fixture. We were lively at Knowsley Road and we would have been lively if our "derby" was against Widnes.

*Maybe JWP, Wire_Yed, Monkey, TANCW or Sal (or others) can explain why one of our stands (and many others in sport) was/is named after a famous battle in the Boer War.

I moved to the North from the South two years ago and the whole experience is far superior. When the stadium rocks, it's the whole place, not just the South. The best atmosphere we ever have is Wigan away.

I like the North too TANCW but with a missus (who won't pay cos it's my thing) and a 9 year old who only likes Wembley it's a few bob. Maybe I'll get a season ticket next year as I haven't missed a home or away game this.

Have no fear when the famous Featherstone Rovers hit town in a few weeks your south stand will have an atmosphere

I just feel abit daft when am sat in the north stand and you try and get a chant going. For the fact no one joins in.

Give us an explanation of that one if you would. . .

fair play to the vast majority of those that turned up & made it a good atmosphere in the West stand. I was stood in the middle of them (yes where stuff happened & no it was purely by co-incidence I was there).

One thing that made me laugh was a lady who stood next to us with her kids. The whole game she was in my face "Where were all these when you were , glory hunters, scouse such & such" for a good hour. Once things kicked off, I asked her if she wanted her & her family to move the other side of us where it was safer. "Oooh you are a gent". You can't make it up.

Well done to the Salford fans for getting behind their team on Friday but Salford will be glad of the glory hunters if and when they eventually get a new ground. Should even attract away supporters who have not been to the willows for a good few years



If and when they get a new ground and will they still be in SL is the bigger picture though.

Solutions for a better atmosphere

1. Make the East stand the away stand and the West a home stand.
or
2. Rip the seats out of the East make it all standing and put those seats in the West end of the South
or
3. Similar to 2 but have the South stand similar to the old Bevan stand Seating at the top standing at the bottom
all standing in the East
or
4. Start f--k--g singing, if no one joins in, bite your tongue look like an idiot and carry on.
or
5. Bring back the BIFF
or
6. Get the players to shame the fans into singing or someone like Moz to get on the mike before the game and get him to do a rabble rousing speech
or
7. Get Geordie to open up the 'Future barmy army supporters school' in which he teaches young fans the chants, how to gee up the players, and possibly a few drum lessons.
or
lastly
8. Get more stewards and throw out those that don't sing
