| Quote ="Live Wired"A bit of bias in that squad me thinks. 4 players from a team that finished 10th? does'nt make sense to me.
And ffs, Eastmond is a halfback, not a centre. if we play players out of position, the Aussies will murder us.'"
Have you seen the four players, though? Would you not have picked Wayne Rooney for England when he was at Everton, just based upon Everton's league position?

England coach Tony Smith has named three new faces in his 24-man squad for the forthcoming Gillette Four Nations against Australia, France and world champions New Zealand.
Sam Tomkins, the 2009 engage Super League Young Player of the Year, is joined by Warrington Wolves utility back Chris Bridge and Kyle Eastmond, the St Helens half-back who delivered a strong performance in defeat at Old Trafford last Saturday.
Tomkins and Bridge are also included in Smith’s 20-man squad for the Gillette Fusion International against Wales at The Brewery Field, Bridgend, this Saturday, October 7.
All three players short-listed for the 2009 Super League Young Player of the Year award, Tomkins, Eastmond and Richie Myler, are included in England’s Gillette Four Nations squad, which also features three other players aged under 21.
“It’s great to see some young and fresh faces in there, this is very much a squad for now and a squad which looks to the future,” said England Head Coach Tony Smith.
“These young players will do a good job for us alongside the wealth of experience that exists elsewhere in the squad.
“The depth of talent reflects the increasing numbers of exciting young players who are emerging from engage Super League.”
The Gillette Four Nations squad is drawn from 11 clubs, 10 from engage Super League and one from the NRL, Wests Tigers who are represented by Gareth Ellis.
Leeds, the 2009 engage Super League champions, have the greatest presence with five players: Kevin Sinfield, Danny McGuire, Ryan Hall, Lee Smith and Jamie Peacock.
St Helens, the 2009 Grand Final runners-up, have three representatives in Kyle Eastmond, James Graham and Jon Wilkin.
Those eight players will be rested for this weekend’s Gillette Fusion International against Wales at The Brewery Field, Bridgend, on Saturday when Smith will be looking for the players involved to make a big impression.
“For some of them it’s a good chance to show that they can make the step up on to the international stage; for others it’s an opportunity to blow off some cobwebs and build confidence and form going into the Four Nations.”
The 20-man England squad for the Gillette Fusion International against Wales at The Brewery Field, Bridgend:
(Club side and community club 7in brackets)
Chris Bridge (Warrington Wolves, Waterhead)

A player's SL contract with a particular club tends to run until the end of November when the new club makes arrangements/starts pre-season training, so accurately Myler is still a Salford player, Burgess a Bradford one & Smith a Leeds player. Moore is a Saints player under contract to Giants for another season on loan, so you can argue that either way... HTH.
Players are allowed to change allegiance between a "developing" nation (ie Wales/Ireland/Samoa etc) & an "established" nation (England/GB, NZ, Aus) between World Cups. However once an allegiance has been set, they cannot change that until after the next World Cup, hence Bridge/Harrison are bound to England until after the 2013 comptetition. HTH too.

Fully agree with you, We have never won anything with Wellens, pryce, senior gleeson and the other players he has left out. Nothing against these players because for years they have been the best at their position, but its time we tried somethong new.
I think its good that these youngsters are given a chance and TS has shown he is willing to give people a chance instead of picking the same old same old.

| We desperately needed pace in the backs and now we have it. Provided the defence out wide holds up that squad will do alright.

If we lose it will be because we weren't good enough as opposed to incorrect team selection.

I mean in terms of who we did and didn't pick at this stage. If we were to play Sinfield at hooker and he was rubbish then that would fall under the simply wasn't good enough bracket.

| Can't see what all the fuss is about with the squad, Tony Smith is the 1st GB/Eng coach to have the balls to drop big name players who have been consistently poor in international matches, and replace them with up and coming youngsters. Fans on other boards are claiming we may aswell not bother showing up against the Kiwis and Aussies with the squad that he's gone for, but with Senior, Burrow, Gleeson, Wellens, Gardner, Jones-Buchanen and Gilmour at last years world cup, we didn't win a game against the Kiwis and got battered against the Aussies.

Sinfield has only played hooker once in Tests, when GB beat Australia at Huddersfield.

The nett result being?

Looks like I got Bridge wrong he may turn into a world beater but for me the jury is still out and I will trust in Smiths judgement,
I can't honestly see us wining it but I said that about us and the Challenge cup ,you just never know !

The net result being that Australia's dominance over GB is far more important than one player playing in one position but fans will often focus on that as the 'reason'.
Tony Smith has been known for playing players outside the position fans are used to them....he played Vinnie Anderson stand-off in the Cup Final, we've had Clarke at 7 for spells this season. He played Dunemann at hooker for a whole season at Leeds. All coaches do it.
