And so you prove my theory....
And I'm guessing the two you cite as great and good are 'The Bends' and 'OK Computer'??.....
The point is, and the reason they are respected within the music industry, is that they refuse to take the easy option and just regurgitate their commercial, 'easier-listening' stuff and instead try to come up with something different, even if it does alienate a large proportion of people, who seem to prefer straight forward, rather dull (in my opinion), trad-rock music.

In that order, yes! Which is rather odd, as OK Computer seems to be the more lauded of the two.
It's all about opinions, though, and I have a feeling my lack of appreciation of Radiohead's later stuff may be down to the fact my tastes have become, sadly, rather less catholic with age

| Opens the door for The Courteeners to step up the 'gobby scruffy northerner' plate.
Seems The Verve have faded out, too.

| Gutted Oasis have split, saw them 3 times the final one this year at Slane Castle Ireland. One of the best gigs i have ever been to. No doubt Noel will have a successful solo career now.

The Courteeners aren't really gobby at all. I've met them a few times and they are all good lads.

They seem that way; was just suggesting that with Oasis out of the picture, lazy journalists would dedicate some column inches to the boys, after many have already begun hailing them the 'heir the Oasis' lad rock throne' and other such cliched bollards.

You're probably right when it comes to lazy journalists.

Hicksy's windows are going through when Mozza reads this. The City of Salford is not Manchester.

That's a pretty indepth analysis of the situation there Dean. I take it from this you've spent a fair bit of time around the brothers, at showbiz bashes and stuff.

| The problem with Oasis was they peaked too soon by semi-releasing their best stuff on B sides of tracks from Definately Maybe & WTSMG ie, Listen Up, Talk Tonight, Masterplan, Acquiesce, Stay Young etc. This ironically resulted in probably their strongest album, The Masterplan.
After this they released albums with 2 or 3 stand-out tracks, not including The Masterplan of course, but even the stand out tracks at times were just classic songs re-vamped, ie, 'Dont Go Away' off the 'Be Here Now' album included a blatant rip off of the guitar rift from 'Dont Look Back In Anger.' Such albums were always touted in the press as 'a return to form' or 'Oasis back to their best,' but in reality they simply weren't, and they couldn't live up to the high standards they had aleady set themselves.
As for watching Oasis live, if any of you were ever lucky enough to have see them in a small venue like the Appollo then you would have be able to appreciate how good they were live, especially in the mid 90's. However, as victims of their own success they ended up playing large venues where the sound quality at times was questionable ie, Heaton Park this summer, and the gigs effectively turned into the biggest outdoor kareoke events you could possibly ever attend in your life. I can't think of anything more annoying as a fan of indie music & the band, to attend a gig and have a band drowned out by the fans singing along.
I'll miss them for sure but I can't help but think they came to the end of their product life cycle a long time before they split up.
Heres to the very predictable and lucrative reunion tour 10 years from now..... with our very own Simon Moran lining his pockets in the process.
