| Quote ="Rob Wire"Have a day off will ya, what are Leeds Rhinos ? If you answer they are the current SL champions and we then go on to beat them in the league, who would we be beating ?
Would it be the current champions by any chance ?
Lets say Saints win the grand final this year and we beat them in the league next year, who would we be beating ?
Thats called beating champions on a regular basis which we fail to do.'"
We beat the champions last year? and have a chance to do so this year? We also beat Leeds in 2005(when they were champs also), we have also beaten Bradford when they have been champs. Showing championship form is exactly what Wires71 said, form that would win you the championship, easy really.

Thats not beating champions on a regular basis is it, i would hardly call beating a weakened Leeds team last year and beating them back in 2005 something that happens on a regular basis,
To finish top of SL we would have to beat Saints and probably Leeds as well, can you tell me when the last time we beat Saints was and when was the last time we beat both Saints and Leeds in the same season ?
All i`m saying here is we shouldn`t be getting carried away just yet just like Tony Smith won`t be getting carried away either, its a good run of results but its not like we are beating either Leeds or Saints is it and thats the benchmark like i said above.

| Okay, so it's only championship form if you beat the champions? So if a team is top of the league and not beaten the current champions then they're not in championship form? Don't talk crap Rob. How can you be in any position to judge our form anyway?

Seems like another one of your backtracks Rob, I totally agree with the above statement but the original point was is that our current form is that of a champion side, which statistically is true.

Meaning what exactly ? This is coming from one of the people that was telling us for years that Paul Cullen was the man to take us forward, how can anyone take anything you say serious after that little gem.
The second anyway questioned Paul Cullen`s inabilities to take us forward on here we were shot down in flames by the likes of you, like i said, have a day off.
Quote ="Mark"Seems like another one of your backtracks Rob'"
Its not backtracking on anything, i said the same earlier in the thread that we shouldn`t be getting carried away with the recent run of results and that beating Saints and Leeds on a regular basis is the benchmark.

Keep it coming Rob, this is priceless. how many games you seen live this season? In person?'"
You talk total and utter poop and you make it up as you go along, you obviously can`t read either.
I never said anywhere that Richie Myler is not SL class, a thread was started by someone else before the season started and i said on that thread that we need to see how Richie Myler goes in SL as he may or may not be SL class as all his form was in a lower division, thats a natural thing for anyone to say about a National League 1 player entering SL.
Nowhere did i say he wasn`t SL class and you know it, i`m sure you just like to make stuff up for the sake of it.
Just to help you along with some facts of what i actually said and not the made up rubbish you posted, here is what i actually said about Richie Myler which was before he had made his SL debut, what i said was logical about a player stepping up from NL1 as you never know until they have played SL whether they will handle the step up or not hence me saying he MAY or may NOT turn out to be SL class, nowhere did i say he wouldn`t make the step up.
Quote ="Rob Wire"Personally my view of us as a club is we don`t have the luxury of signing players like Richie Myler who MAY or may NOT turn out to be SL standard '"
As for Matt King, in the main he has been a poor centre for us, shocking at times, a lot of his best form came on the wing which was hardly suprising. Tell me what quality right sides he has been up against of late ?
He was signed on big money to be the answer to our left centre problems, apart from the odd good game against poor opposition he has been shocking as a centre, Hull arn`t exactly a team in form either.
Like i said have a day off and check your facts about before psoting drivel.

Oh the insults are coming, I was actually refering to your "Matt King is the most exciting signing in the SL era" then stating he was something like the 10 best centre, that's backtracking, how can you give an opinion on Matt King when you rarely watch us play, as you seem to take alot of "days off" as you put it, or starting campaigns for us to sign Byron Ford. This is FACT. Try watching games live rather than just on SKY before posting drivel.

The fact remains that it [iis[/i championship winning form and, if continued over the course of a season, would result in a top 2 final league position. I agree that is a big if though and we are not there yet.

That is very true and sadly it all went awry, a flash in the pan. Let's hope this run of form isn't just that. Statistically speaking I am correct on both points though.

if we would have had TS in the closed season working on the plays and fitness then we would probably be top 3 now.
We just had the shocking start which really made it hard for us, personally now we will finish 5th which considering our early form is a great achievement.

9 games with 18pts to play for with 5 away and 4 home games. Crucially we have 7 games against all the teams currently in the top 8. These being Saints, Leeds, Hull KR, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Harlequins and Wigan.
With our points difference as it is to get into 3rd place we need to win 3 more games than Hull KR, 3 more games than Hudds, 2 more games than Harlequins and 2 more games than Wakefield and match Wigan. I've not done the permutations to see how many of the 7 play each other in the last 9 games and how many points are actually available because of this.
Anyhow I think overtaking Harlequins and Wakefield is possible seeing as we play them both. I'm with you, I think we will make 5th. Creditable return following an abysmal start.
Addendum....
Looking at the four teams above us it is odd that we seem to have a disproportionate amount of games remaining against the other top 7 sides. This is a double-edge sword. It means our run-in should be more difficult than our competitors but it also allows us a little more determinism.

One thing this run of form does give hope for is next season. Not thaty I am writing this one off, but a full close season with Smith does fill me full of hope, expectation almost.

I'm with you on this one, it's comfortably top three form. If we'd had Smith from Rd1, I'm convicing we'd be cosily in 3rd place minimum.
I like the way things are coming along, there's not the peaks & troughs really that you had under Cull, there's not the emotional rollercoaster that came free with your ticket. We've sacrificed a bit of flair for a bit of order & structure, that's cool with me. The Bradford at home defeat, in the past would have derailed us, we'd have lost in France, then you can't see where the next win is coming from, under Che, we're fixed within a week, you can't see us getting beat.

| I would rather play the better teams than the banana skins that are usually our undoing. It allows us to maintain an intensity, plus the crowd gets more involved for a Leeds / saints / wigan game than for a home run out against salford / catalan etc

Thats my take on things, we have been on these winning runs before and seen many a false dawn at Warrington, Tony Smith has done a great job so far to put plenty of pride back into the team and he`s added a lot of steel to our defence, the real test will be against St Helens to see whether we have learnt how to close a game out against them from getting ourselves into winning positions in the past and not knowing what to do next.
It takes a lot for me to get carried away as far as we are concerned as like many a Wire fan we have seen many a false dawn at the club only to slip back into our old ways, Tony Smith is doing a great job so far and i will take step by step improvement each season until Tony Smith can build and shape his own squad into hopefully the real deal where we are serious challengers for silverware.

Although my memory is fading (quickly) and it's probably selective but I seem to recall relishing going to games when Johnno was in charge for the same reason.
