I live in South Warrington....but I run a business in Preston. well done and I am glad you got their safely unlike many people who crashed cars or overturned lorrys. The roads were not safe for driving and sometimes you have to think about number 1, i would prefer to be off work for a couple of days unpaid than to risk my life slipping and sliding all over the roads. I drove from Padgate to Woolston yesterday morning to drop my little un off before work and it was the most horrible drive i have ever done in my 17 years of driving. Having then got stuck in the middle of my mum's road i decided that it would be safer and more sensible to stay in Woolston for most of the day.

i live near woolston park and the lane i live on is still really bad, yesterday i saw three cars spin out of control and mount the pavement,it really isn't worth venturing out unless it is a necessity and some of these nuggets out there need to realise that 20 mph on compacted snow isn't a match made in heaven.

| It's just macho posturing. Of course, it's bloody dangerous. That's why the Ambulance Service were only responding to life-threatening incidents yesterday. If Kol and Pug want to risk their own lives, then go ahead, I hope they don't kill someone else in the process.
Oh, and global warming/climate change is not the same as weather.

All that effort and by 10.00am you're sat at work (in Preston we note) surfing the internet.
Its people like you that are keeping this country going, well done.

yeah its not been great round there for a few weeks, my dad slipping on the ice rink that was on boxing day and broke his arm. it took me 10 mins to get away from there yesterday and then 25 mins to get to Padgate as i had to give the end of Green Lane a miss as cars could not get up the hill, had to go home via Manchester Road & then turn at the Highwayman (well what is left of it)

The Police were asking people yesterday not to travel on the roads unless it was an absolute emergency. I don't regard work as an absolute emergency. You run your own business so I can understand why you battled through the weather, I am a wage slave and I value my safety and well as being one million times more important than my employers sales / profits that were lost for one day.

| Well said Fatbelly. My office was closed today as it is simply too dangerous for all the employees to SAFELY get to work. I am just worried now what tonight's alleged -7 degree temperatures are going to mean for tomorrows roads!

| weather not stopped me getting to neston the last 2 days, saying that it took me 2hrs yesterday to get from paddington to the daresbury then 30 mins from there to neston, if you drive sensible progress can be made. only gripe even in these testing conditions some idiots still tail gating. I have to go to work because sub contractors live in other areas that may not have been affected as bad by the weather and I have the keys. saying that didnt stay long because they didnt turn up anyway, neston was clear yesterday only started snowing there about 11.00. just one other note, snow never stopped my generation from getting to school

no, you don't know what your talking about.
strike action threatened at the drop of a hat, what a silly thing to say, would you like to inform me when teachers employed by wbc last went on strike?
out of this 12 weeks holiday you refer to,how much of that do you think teachers actually spend without working?
aside from the day in school teaching there are vast amounts of marking, lesson planning, course work marking and work in conjunction with any specialist roles teachers may also have outside the classroom, then teachers have to try to balance home and family life into all this too.
it's getting a bit slippy out there,so take care, hope i've educated you a little on this matter, remember to listen to what your teacher says.

| As somebody whose job involves driving relatively long distances around the country, I actually hope this cold snap continues because it is making the motorways a paradise to drive on...
Warrington to Nottingham and back at a leisurely 70-75mph, without a traffic jam in sight, today was an absolute joy.
The great thing is, these present conditions have had the tremendous effect of driving the nervous numptys off the roads, the numptys who, more often than not, are the catalyst for all the problems that happen on the roads.
Long may it continue.....This is how it must have been before the school run and before we let women loose on the roads....
