| Monaghan comes up with some utterly genius plays at times. But he seems to make as many serious mistakes as strokes of genius. Utterly woeful pass for Charnley's try, you could see that coming a mile off.

| Not sure I understood how Woody cost us the game. His punch-up was a bit naughty, but it broke up a sustained spell of Wigan dominance and we should have gone on to reassert our dominance. The main reason we didn't was an insane pass by Monaghan when we were eight points ahead and on the front foot.
The injuries definitely proved our downfall. I hope someone is going to tell me Evans is playing injured because his 'efforts' when chasing back were shocking. Charnley and Gelling took the out of him.
Matty Russell was absolutely superb, our MOM for me.

| Another massive issue for me is Myler as our 'go to' for 5th tackle plays. He doesn't have a kicking game, and his inability to net us territory tonight killed us.

| I thought Myler had a good game in general, wasn't really watching him in defence but he had a hand in our first and third try, good kick for it. His grubbers are an issue though, they pretty much never come off for us, we are much better kicking to the corner for Monas, I don't care how predictable it becomes, we ALWAYS cause chaos when that goes to his wing, everyone flaps and we end up with the ball over that line somehow.

| Also, Pettybourne was winding everyone up all night and put in a few cheap shots that I saw. Not defending Wood; just saying.

| When you kick for field position you at least have a look up so you don't kick it down the throat of one of the best return FB in the game.... Not Russell the other Matty!!!
I don't rate Russell as a FB. We're desperate short on pace this season and we just shipped out our 2 fastest wingers, we ought to put Russell on the wing to utilise his quick play from acting hb.
Wigan knew how p poor we are out wide and they just moved it out to Charnley and Burgess every chance they had.

Myler's kick for Joel's try was nice; just like the 2012 CC final. They are way too few and far between, though.
I can't knock him for his defence or his support play. But that's all he'll ever be: a good support player with a good tackle (if you'll pardon the expression).

Did you not watch Russell tonight? He is doing just fine with his dummy half runs. If you stick him on the wing he's not going to do nearly as much damage as he's doing in the back right now, he isn't nearly as effective as Hodgson or Ratch in that position but he will learn that in time, the way he is able to run backwards and still hand off people barging into him and going off to make an extra ten metres forward doesn't compute with me but it's brilliant to watch, single handedly our best player tonight.

| Yes pal, and you just concurred with me about his runs from dummy half, totally agree.
He can do that more frequent by being up with the play more as a winger.

| We did look exposed on Williams' wing against Gelling and Charnley. With the injuries as well, our defensive set up didn't look solid. That said though, we played well and really should have won that at 18-4 up.

How? Him being a winger just means more time spent by the side of the pitch instead of being able to roam behind the ball when we make a break down the middle.

| Well there are forfeits but Ratchford at FB is a much better runner in broken play from centre field behind a dominate pack.
Tonight our forwards were slightly the better but our back line were turned inside out.

| The Monas pass was the killer. We'd taken the sting out of the Wigan comeback and were beginning to reassert ourselves and we went for the miracle play instead of being patient. Another try and Wigan would have crumbled.
Monas is a wonderful player but his record for giving away interceptions is a fairly good indicator as to why he has never cut the mustard at scrum-half.

It is a hard call to make. I'll agree Ratch is better at gliding around people in broken play, but then I think Russell's kick returns with his speed and power put us on more of the front foot than Ratchfords stuttering run back to the defensive line.

He does run from dummy half with quick ptb. He just doesn't often break from a deep position like we see from Matty Bowen, or Ratchford. Russell seldom breaks from deep, he isn't strong enough to break chasing tacklers but he is illusive and can be a menace against tired forwards fatigued from constant defending.

| There is only one reason we lost that game, because we played like Warrington at a time we should have played like Leeds.
Soon as that penalty was converted, we should have cooled the offloads, not spread the play as much and looked for touch or kicked so deep they had worst case scenario a 20m restart.
I Know we don't play that game but I think there needs to come a point in the game in which we just stop and think and bore out the win.
Do the fancy stuff to get you in front and then slow the game down.
We never will though, it's not us, and it means we'll eithet beat you comfortably or leave ourselves open, we did the latter today.
Wood had sid all to do with it, if he had received a red or had Pettybourne stayed on you would have had a case.

| I'm convinced it'll emerge in a few weeks that Mike Monas has been playing concussed, like an old boxer he shows flashes of genius but then brainfarts too. I don't like watching him taking hits knowing he was out earlier in the year for similar injuries and considered retirement because of that. I hope I'm wrong and modern healthcare hasn't let him slip through the net...

| Wigan came out of the sheds at half time intending to rattle us and we fell for it hook, line and sinker. Of course injuries didn't help but to simply blame those two things is taking a very simplistic view.
Quick point, following the conversation here after the Huddersfield game. Going for the two was a poor decision for mine tonight, it took all our momentum away and gave Wigan a much needed breather. We were never really in it again after that.

| GO..not in my mind, the kick put us 2 scores ahead. Our problem is not knowing how to shut a game down and control like it from a position of a lead.
Wigan do, throw a penalty when we broke down the right.
kick the ball about over and over instead of taking a drop out...twice! kick the ball out behind the sticks to run the clock out... You name it they do it.
