| Ireland's call and flower of scotland are both goosebumps raisers for me. I'd happily go with Jerusalem as our national anthem though.

| Flower of Scotland is a bit embarrassing though, its about Scotlands only ever victory over England and they are still singing about it now. They are like those sad act City fans that bang on about 5-1 in 1989.

I almost agree; its just that the lyrics probably need something of an update, for example:
"[iTho' thy way be darkened, still in splendour drest,
As the star that trembles o'er the liquid West.
Throned amid the billows, throned inviolate,
Thou hast reigned victorious, thou has smiled at fate".[/i
What does all that mean then?

| Did anyone see the American Football at Wembley yesterday. The American national anthem was sung before the match, which I suppose is fair enough because all the players and coaches are American. But why do they have to sing it so dramatically.
I expect most of the fans who were there were English. If so why did they hold up an American flag mosaic in the crowd.

I guess the American flag mosaic was a contrast to the Union Jack mosaic at the opposite end of the stadium.
I also thought Katherine Jenkins rendition of of GSTQ was many times more over-dramatised than the US anthem (which is sung before every NFL game).

It was in contrast to the Union flag, but still, raising the flag of another country is poor form.
Katherine Jenkins was slightly over the top, not as bad as the American fella though. The American anthem seems to be sung like this most of the time.

Well as it was on, I believe, fox last night. I would wager that the audience in america dwarfed the people viewing in britain by many multiples of ten.
It being called American Football is also a clue.
I would understand if it was a North korean flag but it showed a partnership between the states and the uk. Which is what it was,

| I am very happy that 'God Save The Queen' is our National Anthem. It's known all over the world, typified at the American Football on Sunday where the players were looking round in amazement at people actually singing with gusto. In America - the anthem is sung everywhere and anywhere but often by 1 person with others just listening in silence. In the UK - i'm proud of the fact that most people even if only by football, know the National Anthem and are happy to bellow it out.
My only critique of it is it is too short and when played after a long anthem such as Advance Australia Fare it stands out badly.
As regards changing it - Jerusalem is a tremendous hymnn but to have the English/British National Anthem named after the Capital of Israel is plain odd. Land of Hope & Glory would be a good choice, but teaching that to the brainless population of Great Britain would take generations.

What has where it was broadcast or the name of the game got to do with it. Those who organised it all would have had their reasons but those holding up the flag would have been by and large English.
If I was at a sporting event and someone asked me to hold up a flag, I would tell them to do one. The acceptance of the Americanisation of our country and our 'special friendship' saddens me.

This was for a majorly american audience that enjoy OTT patriotism
I'm not critiquing your view but this was two american teams playing an american sport as part of the american national football league and you don't like the american aspects of the game?
I don't feel very strongly on this issue but it does sound like a good way to emphasise the coming together of two cultures. Although I dount the gesture would resipricated if the tables were turned.
Any way, I take it you didn't watch the game and were disgusted it was happening at wembley? Can't get more american than football. It is up there with mum and apple pie.

We need more Americanisation of our sport. There ain't no damn country can run a sport like the US of A, great promotion, well audited salary cap, level playing field competition, brilliant youth development in all the schools and colleges...
I think it would be just swell to have the administrators of the Wolves franchise go to the States and learn from the way the NFL clubs are structured, we already have in coach Smith the winningest head coach in our franchise history and we ran 22 and 5 last year in the regular season, with the best offence and defence in the competition, all we need do is tighten up the way we play finals football and we're set for Superbowl rings!
Now y'all on this internet saying trash like they should award medals for who has the best record in the regular season?? Is this sht for real dogg?
Do the math folks!

| England doesn't officially have a National Anthem. The unofficial anthem is Land of Hope and Glory, but it isn't used. God Save the Queen is the anthem of Great Britain, not England. I have no idea why it's sung by English sports teams, not only because it isn't our anthem but because it's very uninspiring!
Anything with "God" in it or in anyway related to religion should be ed off!
