I think Warrington are taking a step in the right direction with their youth policy and perhaps that'll help the England/GB cause. I certainly hope so as the crop from "recent times" have certainly got nothing to shout about!

It is interesting that Warrington have not had many players coming through to play for the national side, maybe this extra development of youth is what they have been missing for so long.

When DVDV was at Wilderspool he got rid of the Youth teams. The only person from that era to really come through was Paul Wood.

Ray French had an IQ of about 90* before he started getting bashed about the head playing Rugby of either codes. He is now 40 years older and, putting it mildly, a bit worse for wear due to the ravages of sport and old age. Great playing CV in both codes but let's not look to him for eloquence, expressiveness or intellect.

Ray French is university educated and was a teacher at one of the best grammar schools in the region.

He has forgot more about Rugby than you or I ever will know. Listen to his comments regarding International Rugby League on the first part of that programme.

In fairness to the BFG, he is a really good after-dinner speaker. He does seem to get a little tongue-tied whilst broadcasting though.

It's still fair to say that Wire in the 1990s payed little attention to youth development ( even scrapping the A team at one point to save money when times were desperate ). It will take time to correct this but at least we now have the likes of Cooper, Riley, Penny, McCarthy etc coming through.
