I thought the criticism of Dufty was fair regarding their try and his fluffed high kick take.
I'm not sure of what happened the play before but Dufty was over the other side of the pitch and should have been at least in line with Lomax.
It was a great kick and I think Lomax played for that bounce. There was no other Wire player in the picture and the area Ashton had to cover was simply too much.
For Ashtons try, even when Makinson was beaten Matty still had a lot to do to get round Welsby. Welsby was in a far better position to support his winger.
Other than that though, Dufty was solid in defence and dangerous in attack. His pass to Williams when falling was sublime.

And what about the off the ball shoulder charge on Williams? Are shoulder charges alright again? Thought that might merit a look, given it was a double whammy!

Crowther is looking a bit weak offensively, crumples when he hits the defensive wall and seems content not making any further metres. Defensively sound most of the time.

I'm still laughing at the delusion on redvee. They (mostly) refuse to give us any credit and a lot of them are willing to blame Wellens' setup, and naming and shaming individual players. They were world beaters on Good Friday but two weeks later they apparently need a full clear out before it becomes the second coming of the cunningham era. The knee jerk reaction is like that of a spoiled child that hasn't got what it usually expects. That crowd* was awful for a big cup game, zero reaction or motivation came from their supporters, so I can agree with the ones who note there's a growing disconnect between the players and the fans.

Back to us, overall I said I'd have been happy with us just giving them a good game, but the truth is we nullified everything they had in their nal. Actually in the Challenge Cup thread I did say we'd batter them! It will be very interested to see how we go about Saturday now, surely big Sam has got it drummed into them not to get cocky or complacent. Just really pleased with all the green shoots at the moment, but agree with others that we ought not to get too carried away.

*My rewatch was even more enjoyable hearing them cheer every tackle around the 45th minute, as if it was the 75th minute and they'd caned us defensively all through the half. Frightening arrogance that came back to well and truly bite them.

It's interesting to read who is copping it hardest in the Saints fans' blame game. Wellens is under increasing fire for their boring style of play, whilst both Makinson and Lomax are now regarded as past-it and ready for the scrapheap by several of the more rabid observers. Most of the vitriol, though, seems to be aimed at their fresh-faced and butter-fingered left winger - the esteemed Romantic poet and peer of the realm Alfred, Lord Bennison - who must henceforth carry the shame and ignominy of being rated as worse than Tee Ritson.
