First two fairly obvious. Yeoman can be the best centre in the competition if he got fit and back to the form of 2007. May just need a change of environment. Can easily fil the boots of Gleeson though, and we can't rely constantly on overseas players. We have to buy british at some point.'"
Your having a laugh, his last try was from a Paul Cooke pass. He's lost without him.

| Quote ="Ian [77"Interesting idea and one I think Warrington should implement. To do so we will need to:-
- Recruit a head of youth development, maybe from one Leeds?
- Recruit a top coach who has a proven track record of nurturing young players, maybe someone from Leeds?
- Sign up a lot of highly rated young players and blood them through our reserve and academy sides - maybe those teams winning a few games would help demonstrate this
- Start to clear up squad places and cap room by releasing or selling players where appropriate
- Have some sort of system whereby our fans can contribute financially to youth development. Some sort of 'SquadBuidling' system maybe?
Just some ideas. Hope someone at the club is listening...'"
I like the cut of your jib, young man. Bold ideas indeed, let's hope the club take them on board.
....Hang on there just a cottin-pickin' minute...

Quote ="Rob Wire"Thats some comparison lol, Richie Myler was up against one of the worse teams in super league and Sam Tomkins was up against the team that have been the best side in SL this year.
If i remember right from the reports i read Richie Myler did nothing worthy of a mention in that St Helens game either, i wouldn`t want either at Warrington at this stage as both are still inexperienced rookies, were a team that needs experience at present and proven class. Salford have had little choice but to chance a rookie and Wigan are the same after Tim Smith has flopped so far.
I hope both make a top flight career in RL as ive nothing against either player, its just based on what ive seen of both and what ive been told about Tomkins i view him as having more potential especially attacking wise as Myler to me seems more of a support half back rather than a creator based on what ive seen of him overall.'"

I think going off this, he did a fair bit against the SL Champions today. Looks like his stock is on the rise, pretty much a love-in, this thread.

He did naff all, scored a try when the game was 40-14 to reduce the deficit. He just passes the ball along, team orders ? Not sure, but he doesn't try to create anything.

Tommy Loo played well in parts. The Catalans pack just dominated wiggin, couldn't get any good field position in the opposition half.
Tomkins didn't do much. Eastmond and Myler are looking to be good prospect at half-back at the mo. Ainscough is a very good prospect on the wing.

| Quote ="Casual Des"3 names should be on Moran's hitlist for 2010
Benji Marshall
Darren Lockyer
Karmichael Hunt
[urlhttp://www.leaguehq.com.au/news/news/dragons-eye-off-trio/2009/01/15/1231608888607.html[/url
With Gleeson's salary cap space freed up, possibly Briers leaving as well and other imports like Rauhihi, Hicks and Anderson off contract, we should target at least one of these big names for 2010. I hope Moran pulls out all the stops and offers them a package they cant turn down. A 300k a year deal, sponsored car and house in Stozza Heath should clinch it!
NO NO NO NO NO
Hunt would be my first choice, he is younger and we need a full back desperately.
Either Marshall or Lockyer would do to replace Briers. Marshall has time on his side though and Lockyer would be a short term fix, but the most likely to be tempted over.
Thoughts?'"

There's something so fundamentally wrong with this thread. Splashing out on big Aussie stars hasn't worked. What needs to happen is the players need to get some backbone and play with some passion. At the moment they don't seem to care about the Warrington club, and they aren't playing as a team; they are playing as individuals.

| Forget Myler - he is signed up until the end of 2010 - no way a transfer fee under £500k would even attract Wilko & Co. Would feel the same story re Tompkins. Wire should develop the natural talent in the town. There is plent of it and a complete change of focus is needed at the HJ.

I think going off this, he did a fair bit against the SL Champions today. Looks like his stock is on the rise, pretty much a love-in, this thread.'"
Is this going to be the norm where if Myler has a good game you feel the need to bounce this thread up which has turned into a non Warrington thread in the main now ? When we have the troubles as a club that we do at present then neither Myler or Tomkins concerns me, i certainly won`t be bouncing this thread up if Tomkins has a good game just like he did against Quins and the Bulls which were both on sky.
A couple of quotes from that thread you have highlighted.
Quote ="rhinoms"He was good but imo the reds pack led by cashmere, stapleton and alker did us.'"
Quote ="tad rhino"had a decent game, but playing behind a pack that was totally and utterly dominant it wasn't hard to look good'"
These quotes are valid for the point i`m going to make, have you seen the pack that Tomkins is playing behind which is one of the worse in the history of Wigan or are you choosing to ignore that ? Even a world cup winner like Thomas Leuluai is struggling to make any real impact apart from the odd bits and pieces here and there which is basically feeding off crumbs from behind the poor performances of the Wigan pack. To be honest you have to feel for a kid thats trying to make his way in the game in having to play behind such a dire pack as that one at Wigan, you would only take Gareth Hock from out of those Wigan forwads and he himself was missing against Catalan.
I remember when Sullivan and Briers were getting slating on a regular basis on here when people were calling them both poor halfbacks and the defence from quite a few regulars at the time was "Your halfbacks are only as good as the pack they are playing behind" which is very true unless your a certain player and you don`t want to be here anyway.
Terry O`Connor made the point in the Catalan game that Wigan are far too slow at the play of the ball and basically everything they do is in slow motion, Tomkins at present from what ive seen of him looks like he has been told to keep it simple and let the more experienced Thomas Leuluai run the ball which is fair enough as he`s basically way down the track as far as experience goes which is where Richie Myler has a big head start over Tomkins hence i was on about in the future, a few games into SL has hardly taken us into the future has it ......
Quote ="JWP"On one of your posts, you sort of indicate that Myler may or not be SL class, has he done enough yet to convince that he is ? '"
And as for the point above, i indicated nothing of the sort. If you read back you will find that i said Myler may or may not turn out to be SL class as only time will tell which is a natural thing for anyone to say about a player that hadn`t even played a single game of SL at that point and was nothing more than a NL 1 rookie at the time.

Not at all Rob.
I thought it was relevent, given the fact that Salford had won at Leeds and days before the debate was about Myler/Tomkins and how they showed up against the 'big teams'. I suppose also, I read the thread back, and you & Sally seemed to think Myler wasn't a signing 'for the now' if you get me, you thought it was a three year jobbie, and we didn't have time to wait so to speak, we needed a 'now signing', I guess I wanted to highlight that he very much is, I reckon behind our dominant pack yesterday, we'd have beaten Castleford for example.
What did you make of Bridge & Monas yesterday Rob ?

we are in the market for a nippy number seven with plenty of cunning and guile but jimmy krankie is contracted to butlins for the summer!
we might as well make light of things and keep smiling as tony smith will get the job done,i know we'll see improvements soon even though this season could be a long one.
the highlight for me yesterday was my 5 year old son looking at me with 10 minutes to go and saying through a popcorn filled mouth
"dad, wires are not very good today are they?"
"no,they are struggling mate,do you want to come next time?"
"yeah"
that says it all really,we get fed up but we all turn up nontheless
keep smiling
