| Widdop is a revelation this year, so much sharper, looks keen and looks a yard faster too than last year.

| Very good performance, even allowing for the poor opposition.
Widdop superb, Currie, King, Lineham and Hill all excellent. Tougher tests to come but the season starts now.

| Did what was required,
Some good touches throughout the squad.
Can't really read too much into this though.
Left side got better as the match went on. Curries offloads and support play was very good.
Now need to kick on BUT not getting over excited.

Agreed, we need the right edge to look as dangerous as the left now. The whole left edge were excellent today. Widdop really opened the gaps down there and the other lads exploited them over and over.
Butler and mulhern were really solid too, they look like very capable players allowing us to rest hill and cooper a lot more. We have to back that up every week though, there are far tougher tests than that in superleague.

All those who were sacked last week have now been brought back.
All our cynical, sad and negative "supporters" will all be back when we lose again.
It is so easy when you just throw a bit of crap at a forum with no responsibility at all.

| I was a bit surprised Butler got a game but well done SP as it certainly beefed up the middle and didn't leave all the work for our stalwart props. He still gets null points for wasting a spot on a 10 min Ashton the previous game though. I thought Mamo did ok although he missed a tackle on ? Thornley that gave them their second try. To be fair I hadn't expected Price to make even those two changes to the team.
The two players that I thought were disappointing were Walker and Austin. Walker should surely be making more breaks against a tiring Leigh side that was short of some of their better players. Perhaps Walker should be swapped with Davis for the Hull and Catalan games. Austin seems to have continued his very mediocre form of last year whilst Widdop showed him what he ought to be doing in sparking attacks.
I was trying to decide whether to be encouraged or not by the team display. It was certainly a lot better than against Cas. with more fluid passing, a better pack and some clever work between Currie, Widdop and Ratchford to open up the defence. But we will not get the time / space against Saints or Wigan, and their defence will be a lot tighter. We are still not seeing enough running off the ball from the forwards, we are still passing flat footed in the middle, and we still look pretty stagnant attacking their try line in the last 20m.
I think my cup is still half empty.

Saints & Wigan are both looking good. Saints have recruited well and Wigan still look dangerous with several backs out injured.
I did spot Austin chime in nicely when the ball moved left ... but we need to be fluent going right as well.

| Still look miles off Saints and Wigan. Personally I'd be moving Ratchford into the halves and Ashton to FB. Austin can either got to loose or come off the bench. We need more threats and Ashton is one of our biggest. Widdop was superb.

I must admit Austin is a concern. I would never have said that when he played his first ten games for the club ... but he kept making superb breaks then. As I have said before his passing to the right is not half-back standard.

| Much better today but the right side is still a concern as it was for most of last season. If Inglis does fire that will help with either him or King at right centre. Some bold decisions are needed and, surely, space now has to be made for Ashton either on the wing or at full back because we need his strike power. Inglis/Ashton combination could potentially get the crowd off their seats. That means both Charnley and Hughes places are under threat and both have had plenty of chances to improve. Price has made it hard to drop Hughes now but Cooper or Ratchford would have been a far better option. We have not adequately recruited to replace BMM and I am not sure if Robson or Davis are effective enough to start. It’s a bit early for Longstaff and Wrench but hope they get their chance this season. Top coaches are going to spend a lot of time to counter our left side and, if the right is still ineffective, we can tone down our expectations again for another season.

| The game v Swinton is perfect. We have an opportunity to shuffle a bit. Ashton must play and I'd like to see Mamo again (assuming no Inglis) as his pace is always handy.

| For me Wrench must be included somewhere if only to repair his confidence.
And - with all due respect to Swindon - if he cant get a gig there when will he get one?
Ashton, Davis, Walker should all be in the 17 as well as Mulhearn and Butler.
I read somewhere that Blake was carrying a leg niggle - in which case Ratch to replace him and Ashton at fullback.
If GI is 'almost' there, then it could be a reasonable intro to play him in this match - good prep for Hull.
Decisions decisions

| Credit where credit's due a much better performance from the majority of players who were poor last week. As good as the left side looks the right I feel is still a concern. However onwards and upwards.....the game against Hull will show where we really are!

| What are the thoughts on squad for Swinton game ? Hopefully will give fringe players a much needed start but knowing price I think he will go with a strong / nearly full strength squad

| I'd go strongish against Swinton. Need to make sure the momentum is kept and as we only had one pre-season game, we could do with another game in there. Give Ashton the left wing spot maybe, give Hill or Cooper the day off. Give one or two of the young forwards a bench spot.

| Good response after the Cas performance. Much quicker and sharper in both attack and defence. Some tries I'd imagine made Morrisey think of reaching for the HBC. Hope Widdop continues to show what he can do, and the pack go on to dominate better teams.

Fair post. One moment in Austin's favour, was him taking it to the line and passing which made the space for Charnley and Mamo to finish the move. I'd like him to do more of that, rather a telegraphed dummy to try and break the line, which defences are now only too aware of.
