| Not saying he's bad, not at all but i always thought Simon Gillies would have done more than he did, i remember thinking naively (being fairly young then) that he was going to be a world beater and lift us to glory.
Was his contract always going to be a year or did he get fed up/injured?

| Hells bells, how long is this list going to get ??
If we get any more there will only be Brian Bevan and Lee Briers left.

| No No No!
There was nothing wrong with Kidwell. He got great service off Langer, and he looked quality. As soon as Langer left, he got NO service (due to the halves at the time) and therefore looked poor.
As soon as he was back in the NRL again, he was quality.
Going back to Yed's recent post re Gillies. I was underwhelmed with him, too, but (as with 1 year of Kidwell's stint) he had nowt around him.Didn't we sign Gillies with SoO experience behind him?

As The Flying Biscuit says, Matt King was dire for his first 18 months/2 years. But pulled it back when Tony Smith arrived..... Which just shows how important a coach is. Could Sullivan have been as good as Monaghan at hooker if Smith was coaching him??????
'"
No, Sullivan was a bench player in the NRL who made his name from being fast and speeding up the pace of the game when he came on, Monaghan was one of the best players in the NRL, the season before he joined us (2007) he was one of the form players of the league.
As we saw when Sullivan went back to the NRL he didn't last long at Canterbury Bulldogs. He just wasn't really that good a player. He struck lucky getting himself a big deal with us and a big reputation that he wasn't able to match.

Did really well for the Warriors (just re-reading Dean Bells book), but not impressed with him in p&b

| Quote ="the flying biscuit"what a poop post even today at 44 years of Age Walters looks nothing like a fat =#FF0040PLEASE DON'T USE THAT TERM AGAIN, IT IS NOT WELCOME ON RLFANS from St Helens. Like I said a few pages back the bloke came over to England just over a couple of years after his Wife had died of Cancer leaving him bringing up three young boys. I can fully understand Why he decided he wanted to go back home after one Game......
if you judge the qualities of a former Brisbane, Queensland, and Australia Legend after his first game in England then I would imagine only Allan Langer would have lasted more than one game for Wires, how many Overseas players have had sparkling debuts....???
Walters decided it wasnt for him and went home thats fair enough at least he turned up unlike Campion and at least he didnt rob us for a season like Steve Roach, and at least he wasnt crap for two seasons flicking the bird to our fans like Matt king......'"
Blinking heck, I can only guess you are a family member and I hit a nerve!? The post title is about worst ever signings (not players), I am not debating how good the player WAS for Brisbane, that's what got the fans (myself included) so excited...
In terms of signings, he was one of the worst I'm afraid, and we signed him with high expectations, he was overweight and slow, and lasted one game! Unless you think he was a good signing and did well for us??
In terms of personal circumstances, I didn't realise there was a pre-requisite that they were allowed sob stories which excused tem from being poor (albeit in one game).
As for your comment re: Matt King, should I even bother commenting!? The guy turned out to be a great signing!! In terms of the V signs, these were aimed at a minority of fans who subjected him to the most vile abuse imaginable (think references to his mum, family etc). I heard these yobs and it was putrid, so if your talking about judging somebody on their personal circumstances, consistency would be nice.

| In hindsight we signed so many players who were only ever here for the money and had little regard for their own or the teams performance.

It seems weird to say, but I'm sort of glad we went through all that to end up where have. It makes you appreciate the current team and setup we have, not to mention the stadium. I think people should remind themselves of the recent past before moaning about a few quid on ticket prices or the odd under par performance. The dark days of the mid-late 90's.... Poor players, a dying stadium, poor coaching appointments, and yet, some of the best days on the terraces!

| A lot of clubs did it, not just us. Unfortunately it's a by-product of clubs being run by amateurs having unimaginable amounts of money being thrown at them for the first time. When you think of the cash that was squandered in the game generally between 1996-2001, that should have been used to set in motion the grassroots/community stuff which people eventually cottoned onto.

There was a bloke stood near us in the Fletch who would pick a player and abuse them all afternoon, most of the time they were having a decent game.
In Dave King's case however, "run your weight you big daft bugger!" was spot-on

| Two from a very long time ago would be hard to beat. Robin Thompson was an Irish international second row who had just captained the RU British Lions to South Africa. He signed for Warrington in 1955 for what was then a world record signing-on fee. He was a complete waste of space. Martin Regan who signed a couple of years later was the current England RU fly half and was even worse. We spent so much money on those two that we could not afford any more decent signings and the great wire team of the early fifties faded away.
