I thought he was nothing more then solid myself. Only ever noticed him when he was kicking, obviously would have put a lot of work in defence though being on the full 80 and didn't make any error's, but still wouldn't say anything more then an average game.

I don't see where he would fit in here. I wouldn't start him over Louis, Westwood or Harrison for the sole purpose of his kicking, so it would leave him and Vinnie fighting it out for a spot on the bench, and with him being more of a 70-80 minute workhorse I see no sense in that.

Obviously if he does sign then it will be as a replacement for Johnson, but the good thing about Jonno is that he can play in the backs, not just the backrow.

Ditto, ive never viewed him as anything more than that. Our 2nd row needs far more impact than Danny Tickle, we need a back rower that has pace and can punch holes in defences on a regular basis and cause defences problems, that isn`t Danny Tickle.

I doubt he'd be the 80 minute workhorse at Warrington that he is at Hull, though, thus allowing him to have a greater impact in shorter bursts throughout the game.

From last night, what he can do better than our current back rowers is stand in the tackle, attract three players and get an offload away. Not something that Westwood & Harrison do just now, do. He runs some clever lines too, looks quite difficult to pick up, he's playing on the right fringe now, but with Westwood there, you'd think he'd start on the left fringe.

He didn't sparkle or anything last night, sure. We're only looking a little harder for obvious reasons. In the bigger picture, I've seen enough from his to suggest he'd got a better rugby brain that any of our backrowers just now. He's probably got better hands too, you could play him at 13 and he'd get involved. I don't see him as a powerhouse, he's more of a Wilkin for me, bit of guile, bit of nous, gets through his work, teammates will appreciate him, would make a go of it in four or five positions and he'd do a job for you at stand off with a simple kicking game.

Yes because its the usual bandwagon thing, if he's over 30 he's only here to top up his pension, younger players will be more committed etc

The way some fans want it, we would only sign 20 year olds so they could be in the team for 12 years....then we'd have the same team for 12 years....

My thoughts on older players are that you just have to look at the fitness, some players decline rapidly at a relatively young age through injury or whatever (eg Daryl Cardiss was past his best at 27, same with Toa who was not as dangerous a player at 28 as he was at 23). Other players enjoy the peak years of their career in their 30s (Jonathan Davies, Forshaw, Ruben Wiki, Steve Price). Forwards especially.

The sportsmans dilemma is usually a trade off between physical attributes and technical/mental attributes, ie the longer a player plays any sport, the better he becomes at it, the better he understands it, but this is countered by physical deterioration. Andy Flintoff gave a recent interview saying its a shame but he's now a better bowler than he's ever been in his career and its too late. If his body was in shape he would probably be the best fast bowler in the world for the next 3-4 years like Courtney Walsh was towards the end of his career.

The best type of player then is the older player who is still in hot physical condition, because he's going to have improved his technical skill and reading of the game but still got his fitness - AC Milan make a policy of accumulating that type of player which is why they won the Champions League with a team of 35 year olds.
