| Point won? Point lost?
Given the choice of Gidley or Brown, I think I would bring Patton in for Gidley.

| Well, I'm pleased to find I was a bit overly pessimistic.
Has to be considered a point gained. Sure, we haven't turned the corner or even reached it yet, but a loss after that second-half comeback would have been too much to stomach.
Now, we just have a little something to build on. Defensively, we only conceded one try from a genuine breakdown of our line. We must improve with the ball though, big time.

| Silly errors cost us the win today. If we can eliminate these we could climb up the table. Hull dropped a lot of ball second half mind. If they had played half decent they would have been out of sight.

| 1st half we were relegation fodder giving away a couple of ridiculous tries, and I was expecting a spanking. But the tide turned second half and our tries seemed to cut through the lack of self-belief. Wire certainly put in a lot of effort second half and suddenly started to click. I am not a fan of Russell but he ran rings around a big heavy Hull pack making very decent ground for us. He was a bit too quick for them as well when close to the line and well worth his hat trick. Gidley looked as though he had placed a bet on Hull to win from the number of errors he made, but he did keep the ball moving in attack. Hill looked pretty tired, Hughes and Westerman were a bit ponderous but I assume a lot of that was due to their tackling stint. Philbin only seemed to come on for the last three microseconds which surely was a mistake when we could have done with some fresh legs for the last 20 minutes. Atkins was a bit of a revelation - I thought we must be trialling a new forward when he kept hammering into the Hull defensive line.
For me it was a point lost because Hull were out on their feet for the last 15 minutes and we missed a relatively easy drop goal attempt late on. And I didn't hear the drum or chanting from the end of the South. It was left to the rest of us to shout Sneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyd ! as he fluffed a penalty kick and drop goal attempt late in the second half.
Same again next week please.

We don't have a drum, to be honest I think Sneyd felt sorry for you after the way he played against you last season
Knew it would be tight, your team is full of internationals including a few current ones, I had a feeling you would beat us today, but disappointting to lose a 14 point lead, Houghton is massive for us so to take 3 points off you and Wigan away without him in pleasing.
Tough league this year, still think you will make the 8, must beat Leeds next week though.

Massively.....
pitiful awful garbage
that was the worst Hull side that has visited this ground in years and we scraped a draw.
Also Jack Smith is not a good referee........
I've seen him ref games we weren't involved in and thought Deary me !!!
... but I've given him slack because hes been shot by the Taliban and that should earn you stuff....
but crikey he cant spot anything the game completely passes him by.
even his hand signals are confusing

| Yes ,once again some poor unforced handling errors were our downfall helped by some dodgy refs decisions.Luckily something managed to galvanise the team into something much more like the side from last season for the last 25 minutes & a certain amount of confidence returned as we held the ball better.Hopefully,if the team can carry that forward to next Friday we could actually beat Leeds. They need to work on some moves though then everybody is singing from the same hymn sheet, there were times today where some players didn't seem to know what part they were playing. They could & should have won today, considering 2 of Hull's tries were full length breakaways coming from our errors.

The first one was obviously down to Brown throwing an intercept, the second was a poor pass from Hughes (Just what has happened to him?) to Ratchford, that he droppped.

| I was almost proud to brandish my Warrington top in the pub after the game. Clearly, as everybody has stated, the team is not performing to the standards we, or the players for that matter, expect but the grit and determination showed by the boys against Hull was magnificent. Most people forecasted a collapse when we both gifted Hull points and contrived to ruin every attacking opportunity we almost created. Yes we are still a way off but that was a truly gutsy performance when despite things going wrong the boys continued to battle. Let's take that into the Leeds game and build on that performance.

Thanks for the kind words...
However we haven't gone upwards, in truth the gap widened with Widnes winning. I've given up wanting the Pies and likes to get beaten...I now want them all to win and the likes of Widnes and those around us to get beat instead.

| You know what's bugged me since yesterday? Page after page after page after page of posts over the last few weeks while we've been abject (rightly so), but we show a bit of something yesterday, bit of guts and a bit of passion, and there's barely anything been posted.

It's hard to get animated with 1 point from 14, sitting bottom of the league with an immovable coaching team and a barren season to look forward to.

Couldn't agree more, thought the exact same myself. Had we not turned it round yesterday and lost then this thread would be about 15 pages long and the Smith out thread would be at the top of the forum.
At least the supporters who turned out yesterday got behind the team even when behind. Good to see. Plenty to work on still but some good positive signs yesterday. A long way off where we need to be obviously, but if we can put our second half performance into action more often than not in the coming weeks we'll move up that table.

A good(ish) second half performance does not make a season. The problems remain and will do so until a change in the coaching staff, followed by changes in the playing staff, occur. 2 of hull's tries yesterday came from a clear lack of any attacking plan or understanding of what they are supposed to be doing - we seem to have no set plays or they are so bad it masks their presence. In any case, after Saturday we are even further behind Widnes let alone the top 4 (which we have no chance of anyway)!
The news about the Crosby's baby does put things into perspective though.

I agree with you and 100%Wire, sure we await our first win and the rest of league are collectively further away (the winners in the top four and our neighbours scrapping it out at the bottom), BUT, there is a lot of difference drawing a game 22 - 8 down in comparison to losing that lead particularly when reviewed against the abject performance at Leigh and the surrender at Saints.
We need to back it up but at least we have something to back up

| We now [ihave[/i to beat Leeds.
I'd we fail to do so, we'll be back to square one confidence wise, further adrift at the bottom and at that point we really can steel ourselves for a very uncomfortable season.
If we win, momentum swings more in our favour after Saturday and there is a glimmer of hope we can get back up the table.
No ifs no buts - we need the right team selection, and an 80 minute performance from all 17 and any kind of win.

Couldnt agree more. We are by no means the finished article and sometimes still have brain farts (see Brown and Hughes passes which led to Hull tries), but we still showed some passion and desire to win that game. Had the game been on sky we may have won, had the ref made one different decision we may have won, had Gidley been stood 5yds further left when we took the last drop goal we would have won. Ok, so we only drew but we were in the mix with one of the leagues front runners and probably were the better team.
We now have a performance (admittedly only 30mins or so) to build from, we know we can do it, we are looking a little more fluid in attack, our defensive kicks were good on the whole and the team looked like a team for once, not a ground of individuals.
For the first time the season I have some confidence in the team so hopefully we can push on.

| Good to see a few measured responses to my post, i wasn't advocating a bus parade past the HJ, merely a bit of recognition for the lads' gutsy 2nd half performance. The way our heads dropped after Russell's mistake for Saints' opening try last week could easily have happened again. The criticism has been largely warranted, but we should be equally as willing to dish out praise, lord knows the lads need it at the minute.
