I seriously hope we are not in the running for the current version of Darren Lockyer, he`s been a world class player throughout his career but in my opinion those days are behind him now. In the recent origin series it was a very low key Darren Lockyer on show, he doesn`t posess the pace that he used too which allowed him to step off either foot and more often than not it would result in him going over for a try or he would give a supporting player a run in.

These days Darren Lockyer is a distributor in the main where he will be at 2nd or 3rd reciever throwing out the long cut out passes, he is 32 and has recently had to overcome a serious injury, that injury has certainly had an impact on how he plays along with some obvious loss of pace in recent years.

I was against us signing Andrew Johns who was a similar age and a similar risk with his past injuries and look how that later developed, he`s been a pleasure to watch over the years but this is a route we shouldn`t be going down, maybe 4 years ago but certainly not now.

I can't see Lockyer leaving Brisbane. A player/assistant coach role awaits methinks.

Touch would thats the case, you watch the NRL a lot from what ive seen, would you agree that at this stage in his career and based on his form in recent times that it would be a bad move for us to shell out a serious amount of money on a player thats in obvious regression. He has been one of the best players ever to step on a rugby pitch but to me those days are well behind him, Queensland are that good and have so many strike players that they can afford to have a low key Darren lockyer in their side just to move the ball around.

I don't think it would be a bad signing, but we certainly wouldn't be signing the Lockyer of a couple of years ago, perhaps last season even. He seems to have lost that zip that gets him out of situations where he is being rushed on the last tackle.

I don't think he would come here for less than a two year deal, I couldn't see him getting anything more than twelve months from us.

But as I said, I just can't see him leaving Brisbane.
