A funny thing happened to me on friday when i turned to my saints fan friend and said i have no doubts that the wire would win tonight! now as i said that a sudden thought came over me not just in regards to that game but when did we go from saying i hope we will win but probably wont against most teams to i am sure we will win against most teams it seems to have just crept into our culture as the expectant winner wheras i remember the days not so long ago we were the expectant loser and a win was a bonus.
Just thought id see if anyone could pin point the moment that happened

You've always been smug, arrogant barstewards on the whole. You could, seriously, go through the many years of playing the fool against Saints and find tons of people who would say things like 'really can't see us losing this one'. The only thing that has changed is that you can actually win the games now.

I still do not go in to any game overly confident except maybe the challenge cup games against lower league opposition.
Too many years of let down teach me to keep my feet planted on the ground. Away games at the likes of Salford, Bradford, Wakefield, and Hull KR still fill me with dread.
Thankfully they are done and dusted.
Again, Cas away this week, I am not confident.

No, not at all. I'll bet it hurts Widnes fans to watch it and realise how far you've fallen. The problem was that the Widnes club was run like the Greek economy. Maybe this time round you'll be able to cope. |

I reckon we used to lose these matches because we never paused for breath or punctuation and so eventually after one hundred words or so we just ran out of wind and couldnt play at all |

2 - We've won 2 major trophies in the last 2 years.
3 - You've spent a fair portion of the last 22 years a division below us.
4 - We sent you down.
5 - We're so wedged we could buy your ground tomorrow. Not off you obviously, off the Council that own it.
6 - We're challenging for the SL title. I'm 33. Unless I'm killed in a freak yachting accident, you're unlikely to do that before I'm dead.
There's probably another 14 reasons but I think those 5 will do for now. |

Now im not saying you are not miles ahead of us.I was just asking how far away do u think u are at becoming world champs ?.

The Halton stadium is not a better build, in fact it is an appallingly designed stadium, the vomitoria are ridiculous, it should be condemned.
Buy it five times? It is at this point that Mr Moran steps in and tells O'Connor to take his vehicles and associated grease monkeys orf his land, before he sets the dogs on him.

I've heard everything now, a Widnes fan taking the mickey out of us. Didn't the team that won the WCC all those years ago go bust. The present team is only 2 years old and rent the council facility for games. They have to off it by a certain time so the pensioners can play bowls.

didnt hurt then doesnt hurt now....it was hardly an established tournament was it......? some twenty two years later it still not fully taken seriously.......
My overriding memory was it was great to have some Rugby League on the BBC on a wednesday night. secondly what a great shot by Laurie Daley. Thirdly was Keith Macklin related to the Queen speaking like that.
I wouldnt swap it for a challenge cup final ever. the only reason there is modest interest in the WC games is because there are no more Australian winter tours and those midweek games against the top 8 clubs were absolutely sensational nights, and Sky are desperate to reclaim that missing part of our game |

you do realise Widnes won its first ever champonship as recently as 1977.... we had already filled our boots with a league and cup double twenty years before that.
So don't compare trophies,compare something like best ever wingers..... oh hang on best not...
