| What's up with him? I know he was dropped earlier this season but thought he regained his place. He seemed to have a good start for you. As a Hull fan I was sorry to see him go. At Hull he had some weaknesses in defence but was a big powerful runner and an excellent finisher. Given the choice out of Lineham and Westerman I would rather have kept Lineham. I understand Westerman has been very good for you.

| Joe Westerman has been great for us with and without the ball. Tom Lineham's defensive frailties are still there. I think Tom needs to work on his application and attitude.

There were rumours that he wasn't the most professional sportsman which irked Radford.

No doubt he can finish but he needs other players to do all the work. Rugby is a team sport and he's too lazy to get that.

Hmm not really he plays outside a good centre he performs. Of his ten tries in the first game how many were created by his centre.
I don't think dropping him is the answer and I would have penny n Lineham onbthe wings anyday over Russell n Evans we are cutting our nose off to spite are face in thus situation.

| Again? The centre thing? A centre doesn't make him any better at anticipating and chasing kicks, or returning balls it taking first runs for quick ptbs.
His try scoring isn't in question, just every other thing.

Exactly. And Evans served him up plenty of ball when they were playing 2 and 3 together. You just have to look at the way our own Kev Penny, or the Pies' Manfredi, a much smaller player, runs the ball back at defences, and then watch Lineham seemingly shamble forward and fall over, almost avoiding 'collision' , to see that something is wrong with his attitude.

| I can't see him being here but not sure who would want him given his current predicament. I've heard Wakey have signed Caton Brown but Salford already have another 2 decent wingers in vidot and Carney. Maybe Hull KR I suppose.
It depends whether anyone will/ can pay the wages we are. I've always wanted him to come good but if it's deemed he isn't even needed with a Wembley final on the cards and playoffs around the corner then something must be seriously wrong and he needs to go. The salary cap means that you can't afford to carry anyone who isn't playing and seemingly won't be considered for the first team.

| Evans has given him plenty of ball lol yet has 3/4 assists all season!!
I'd not be sad to see him go he has so far not endeared himself to the club for whatever reason that could be debated all day long.
My point is he would still be a better option on the wing than either Russell and Evans as would penny who for whatever reason has been dropped.
Super league in general is missing world class centres or eve top quality ones. Think back to successful teams they have always had very good centres and wingers maybe not on both wings. We have Atkins that's it penny realistically is not top quality he's way down the list for an England call up Evans well he can defend Lineham has massively underperformed and underwhelmed yet scoring consistently. And King still needs time to develop he has had some good games but some awful ones too.
I dunno what to think lol I see the potential for him to be regular super league top scorer, n it's that he is not realising ihis potential that annoys me the most, players make mistakes knock ons make wrong decisions they are only human how they react to it is what makes the difference. Again he has not reacted as desired to the questions that have been asked of him. That can change but only Tom can make that happen and I think if he can show desire and improvement he can easily get back in to the team!!!

| I appreciate hindsight is a game changer, but I was surprised when your club paid a 6 figure fee for Lineham.
Great finisher, but no defence and not really a team man.

and that is the point when a club is investing cash and decent cash at that, you'd have thought that we would have known what we were getting. As fans we often base a view on hindsight as we aren't exposed to a players qualities good and or bad in the same way even if we knew that a particular player was on the radar.
Perhaps TS and Co thought they could coach the lad better than his counterpart at FC?

| Tom Lineman Problem has always been his attitude he doesn't want to listen or learn and every thing is a joke to tom and that come from one of our coaches we was well rid, not saying who we have are better but at least they want to listen and learn something Tom is incapable of doing, I thought Tony Smith would sort him out but obviously not, looks like its onward and downward for him like Tansey

| Not sure Tom actually wanted to come to Wire, there were strong rumours when he left here that after the deal was struck he met with Pearson and Radford to have it reversed. Kind of the opposite situation to Gareth Carvell's situation before he left us for you, after he had signed a contract with us but asked it to be torn up so he could join you guys.
But in Toms case Pearson/Radford would not budge as we already had Mahe Fonua lined up.
I think the Hull fans loved Tom. Yes he had his deficiencies but Radders could have worked on those like he has with Mahe Fonua also.
The problem for Tom was attitude, he did not fit the new blueprint which Radders now demands.
....and he probably doesn't fit Tony Smiths blueprint either.
But the lad has undoubted talent, he just needs to commit himself to the game totally and to the team ethic. Once he goes back to school re. the defensive side of his game he'll come out the other side a good player for someone i'm sure.
He happy go lucky and likes to be having fun a bit too much. He should lose some of that and focus a bit more on what is expected of him as a professional..
But I like the kid and I'll always wish him well.

| There has clearly been an issue with him and I don't think that it's an ability issue.
He probably didn't want to come here but he has signed a contract! It's him nit trying that frustrates me. I also do jot believe that dropping him is going to improve the situation and change his attitude and the potential trys he can score far outweighs some of the complaints ppl have about him, if he had the same weaknesses but people felt he was putting effort in then he would not be in the situation he is in now
I've defended or looked for the positives in his performances since he joined it gets harder n harder each week but there's still time for him imo.
The Wigan reserve games kinda sums his season with us up first half disinterested no effort second half scores a hatrick!!
Clarke did not really want to come to us n his performances were probably affected by that in his first season too. Im now at the point if he goes fine it didn't work out if he stays and improves that great.
I think that the club were well aware of what they were getting and believe they can get him up to standard. Tom himself has to buy into that too and commit, which at the moment I can only assume he isn't which is a stupid move on his half he has joined a club just as capable as the one he has left of winning silverware which surely is what all players want, to win trophies.

| Tom, when applying himself correctly, is a major strike weapon in a team. He was prolific for us at Hull in a very mediocre to poor team and alongside centres that were very poor. He was known though for having a careless attitude and enjoying fooling around far too much. It is a shame that he hasn't gone on to reach the heights with your team, I honestly thought he'd be a sensation with you but he's obviously wasting his talent and time must be running out for him to reach the heights he has the potential to. Radford has systematically rooted out the "bad eggs" at Hull and TL was one, it would seem. I think you'll persevere with him for at least next season, given the investment you made to secure him and honestly hope he'll show you what a great winger he can be. He has all the attributes, pace ,strength and try scoring ability, his defence can be an issue but if TS cannot help him, I doubt anyone will. I was far more sorry to see him leave than Westerman, but credit to Joe, he seems to have progressed and will reach the heights that his talent deserves, just hope Tom can too as he is a genuinely nice kid.

| Tony Smith has a good record of helping players to develop and maximise their skills and ability. To start with however, the player must want to improve, to make the most of their potential and be prepared to do the hard work required to become the best. If the desire isn't there, it won't be successful. It appears that the coaching team have tried to get Tom Lineham to realise that he needs to demonstrate he WANTS to be successful, by applying himself. They have no doubt talked to him, dropped him from the first team, sent him out on loan, played him in the reserves etc. So is Tom now at the stage of realising he can do it but needs extra application, or is he trying too hard and making a mess of it through lack of confidence or plain not bothered? Is he capable of kicking on and becoming what we thought we were buying when we signed him? Personally I don't know the guy or the situation that well however it seems such a waste of talent not to mention money. Perhaps we didn't do enough checking on him before we signed him. It's decision time now though and hopefully the club, coaching staff and more importantly Tom Lineham will bring the matter to a head to the benefit of all. For me, that would be for the lad to knuckle down and become the top class winger he hopefully and we desperately want him to be. If not we should cut our losses, move him on if possible and give someone else the opportunity to play for our great club.
