| The media bias against rugby league is ridiculous. The bloke plays at the top of the sport for over a decade and he doesn't get nominated until he switches to rugby union. Disgusting.

This is the panel. Who do you suggest is biassed?
Representatives from BBC Sport: Barbara Slater (director, BBC Sport), Philip Bernie (head of TV Sport) and Carl Doran (executive editor, BBC Sports Personality of the Year). Representative from BBC TV Sport: Jermaine Jenas. Pan-sports broadcaster/journalist: Hazel Irvine.
National newspapers: Tim Hallissey (the Times), Ian Prior (the Guardian) and Cliff Hayes (the Sun)
Former nominees of an award: Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Maggie Alphonsi and Dame Mary Peters. UK sports industry: Baroness Sue Campbell

| I assumed he was nominated as captain of the treble-winning side. A bit like St Helens winning the team award when they won the treble.
Good to see Lucy Bronze nominated.

| Fury Hamilton Murray.
It's voted by the public as far as I'm aware (interested)....Sinfield will be above the swimmer gymnast and long jumper...and possibly the lady soccer player. ... that's about the best we can hope for....
Its a shame.....and a reality check on our sports popularity.
but like an Adele album, and leggings. Popular stuff isn't necessarily all that good.

Don't know about the BBC mob but none of the nationals you list give any decent coverage of RL. Even the Indy doesn't do much on RL any more.

Had a look at several online odds for the award and they all have him in 5th position at the moment which is impressive, above the likes of Farah and Froome. Going by the bookies they think it'll be Murray pipping Ennis Hill and a fight for third between Fury and Hamilton, with Sinfield not far behind with the odds he's been given. 20/1 roughly for him, the likes of the gymnast and Lucy Bronze are well back at around 150-250/1

I put it on the thread on the Leeds board. The top 3 from the last 5 years. Some years the third place hasn't got an I achievable number for Sinfield to get.

| I'll be voting for him.
I always think these awards should be for how well the nominees have performed over a long period of time and for their general 'ambassadorial-ship' for their sport rather than 'one hit wonders'.
Yes - they should have had a 'wonder period' but one year wonders don't do it for me.

come on you remember the glory year when the entire Country was on pins hoping Princess Anne's Daughter would win the horse jumping world cup thing I can remember the Ticker tape parade like it never happened.....
the Sad thing is Ryan Giggs won the award for being an "[uat the top of his sport for a long time and being a good role model and not falling out of Night clubs kind of bloke[/u". He was never a stand out captain for his club and in United's treble winning season i dont remember him being their focal player.
Sinfield has been all[u that [/uand more and (as far as I know) hasn't nobbed his brother's missus....
its not my cup of tea that programme I most likely wont watch it. but he'll conduct himself superbly on the show and will be a credit to our sport.

If all the people who actively watch RL vote for him that's 100,000 votes in the bag and a decent chance for him. Hamilton won with 210,000 votes and McIlroy was runner up with 124,000.

| Put club loyalties aside please and just get on and vote for him. He has been a superb leader for over a decades. He has been great for The Rhinos but also for the wider game. Come on, all league fans, let's support this as best we can. You never know, we may even get more than a minute's coverage in this year's show!

| Nice to see a RL player getting a bit of exposure, for once.
However, I see a major spanner in the Sinfield works. PERSONALITY?
I've owned kettles with more charisma than "Sini". Has he ever smiled?
Looking at the list of previous winners though, I'd say he's like an ITV Gameshow host, compared to Nigel Mansell, Andy Murray and Torvill and Dean.
Good luck to the fella

| I'm not a big fan of cricket but leaving Joe Root off the list is an injustice The lad has worked his nuts off to become No.1 batsman in Test Cricket. Perhaps its because cricket is now owned 100% by Sky TV while the BBC still has a little bit of RL

Got it right there no cricket and 1 or 2% Rugby League? It's probably been said before but with what little sport there is on the BBC you would think the Match of the day pundits would be up for it.

You are aware that 'personality' can be used to refer to a 'celebrity' or 'famous person', aren't you? It's not about how many funnies they can crack down the pub. I reckon Sinfield has a chance of making the top 3, and I hope he does.

| Maybe be this "personality" issue is something for the future of the game as a whole....identify which club players are likely to be wheeled out in front of the tv cameras & coach them into the art of being a tv personality & not just at the time of BBC spoty.

I do wonder if players have media training. They do seem to say the usual stock phrases.
Remember the "I'd just like to thank Tissot fer watch"
