| At last nights fans forum one of the topics was game day atmosphere. For me there is a big difference between the North and South stand, I’m just wandering what other people’s views of this are and the overall atmosphere of the day.

Be controversial but ban smart phones to be used during the game.
I don't know about the enforceability if it but that would certainly help.

| For me the atmosphere died when the corners were filled in. The singers and the drums used to locate near the big screen, this got the west stand more engaged and singing along, now we have people trying to get chants going from different ends of the stadium. Also same old same old chants, why not pinch some adapt some from the other clubs or football clubs as do other teams. Atmosphere is also built by an exciting team, get the fans something to get excited about and something to sing about, 5 drives and a high kick to the corner hardly get my juices flowing.

| Back in the day the Bevan Stand never used to sing and chant, that was down to the fletch and the railway end when we used to change ends, and a bit from Pondlife Corner. The atmosphere in the ground will raise when stakes and performances will rise.

Arguably our success since 2009 and the addition of glory supporters, as well as a more sanitised, family oriented game day ‘experience’ mean the atmosphere has taken a dive. As others have said, the chants are repetitive and boring. We’re always out sung by a decent away crowd too, it’s embarrassing!

| I should think the punk version of O Warry Warry is one of the most widely sung chants throughout SL & heard at every ground. It will probably be sung tomorrow by fans of the other 3 clubs.

Use of the word sanitised is interesting, reason for my interest is when I mentioned the difference between the PASSION between North and South a woman at the meeting had ago at me. She said she was a North stand fan and was passionate but was against the swearing and obscenities etc in the South. I imediatley challenged her to say were had I even mentioned swearing etc. Well my opinion of the both stands is there is a big difference.

I do think we will get a taste of our own medicine tomorrow. Roles will be reversed from last years heckling to the Saints fans losing to Cats. Most Saints fans i know will be there for our game just so they can support Hull.

I agree there are supporters that view an away game differently to the average hum-drum, going through the motions, home game.
Many view it as a bit of a mission/day out. You are in 'enemy' territory after all passions will be raised even in our case as a consequence of being liberated and unshackled from having to put up with those sanitised, pesky glory hunters

| I think it would make a difference if they turned off the over loud tannoy music about quarter of an hour before kick off . It's that loud you can't have a chat without shouting.

| I have to admit that I’m always a little jealous of the Leeds fans and ‘Marching on Together’. I’d love us to have a song that would get the atmosphere building like that. I know we had the ‘Boys in the Primrose and Blue’ but it didn’t seem to catch on when they tried relaunching it a few years ago.

| Drums are a complete blight on atmosphere. I hate them!
And it’s even worse then people bang the corrugated back of the stand out of time with the drum n’all.
Drums reduce sets of fans to inane Euro pop chants where the words stretch as far as “der der der der der” “oooah woooaaah woooahaa oooh” accompanied by the monotonous beat *bang ba bang bang, band ba bang bang* over and over and over and over and over.....
It’s the worst thing about our support. I wish all grounds banned musical instruments in the stands.

Primrose and Blue would be a great drumless chant. But drums have created this dumbing down of atmospheres and the thick buggers who love the drum lead atmospheres wouldn’t be able to learn so many words.

The "der der der" is inane, infantile gibberish. The hallmark of unimaginative
The drum is puerile as is the constant music and announcements at the game.
A crowd left to its own devices will create atmosphere of it's own, like it used to do in the 80s and 90s.

| I have no idea why sports clubs think that cranking up the music as loud as it will go, creates an atmosphere. Music over the tannoy (usually at Volume 12 when it only goes up to 10 as well) really creates silence in the stands. It just drowns out any noise the crowd makes and stops them bothering.
And music after tries is just cheesy as !

| Must admit, I hate the fact that the club seem to think that we need constant external stimulation to enjoy the "matchday experience" (whatever the hell that means?!)
Let the crowd make their own atmosphere, have a chat, whatever they like - we've paid money to watch rugby, not listen to loud & inane music.
As for chants you don't hear any more...."Who's your father, who's your father, who's your father referee? Hasn't got one, hasn't got one, you're a b@st@rd referee"

It's strange, but the quality of atmosphere has waxed and waned over the years, not always in line with the performances on the field. Sometimes, quite the opposite. I was a regular up till 2013 when I moved down south, so I can't comment on the last few years, but for me there were a few "peaks" in the atmosphere at home games, from when I started in 1989/90:
- My very first memories, in late 1989 when we beat Widnes just after they had won the WCC and won the Lancashire Cup. Also the run to Wembley that season.
- The Jonathan Davies era, 1993 to 1995.
- The later DVDV era, 1999 to 2001. We were inconsistent as heck but pulled off some big wins over top teams at home and the atmosphere on those games especially evening games on Sky, was buzzing.
- The early Cullen era: last year at Wilderspool and first year or two at the HJ, similar to the later DVDV era with some cracking individual wins over big clubs or Widnes, Nat Wood to the fore.
- The turnaround in fortunes in 2009 from the point TS took over to winning at Wembley. This also continued in to 2010 which was the first time we'd had a season where we could look forward to home games expecting to win most weeks.
One thing I had noticed starting to affect the atmosphere most weeks from 2011 onwards, was a change in mindset that only the playoffs really count. Before we were really contenders, every week mattered more. We didn't expect to win trophies and so winning derbies or turning over top teams in league games meant a lot more back then. That cliche of "beating a big club is their cup final" is used in a derogatory way, but it really boosts the atmosphere for supporters of less successful clubs, at league games.

When the drummers are not at the game, the crowd struggle to create an atmosphere. It's very flat and the away end usually out sing us. The derby games not so but the drummers are there for those games.
Unless the atmosphere you're after is a load of effin and jeffin at the players when they knock on etc..

| Drums. Just leave them to Phil Collins, Chester Thompson, Neil Peart etc.
Other musical instruments. Seriously. WTF? Just go away.
Someone previously mentioned THAT Leeds song. God, I'm envious. I know it's the height of 70's kitsch, but it's FANTASTIC. Whenever I hear it on Sky, I'm almost singing it myself.
Times change, so do team's locations. We're never going to recreate the Fletcher End. Those days are gone, as now our fan base has moved from a hugely predominant young to old male base, to a more family based support. Imagine someone striking up "Oh Warrington, is wonderful. It's full of......"nowadays. There'd be be 6 heartattacks, and a string of Millennials crying "you can't sing that" into their iced lattes.
Again, someone mentioned a forced atmosphere. Don't get me started on that Godawfull 5 second bugle call, after every time we score/need motivating.
Play decent, attractive rugby, which excites the crowd, and the atmosphere will return. It wasn't exactly a library, under Smith's open rugby years.
