I make that 6 Wigan players playing this Saturday that didn't play that day
Mickey Mac, Liam Farrell, Eddie Pettybourne, Tony Clubb, Joel Tomkins & Blake Green with Thornley missing for the season making 7 missing that night.
Only potentially Scott taylor will not play who you could argue would make us stronger (In place of Clubb/Pettybourne) & Maybe George Williams for Powell although not sure Wane would have risked him if he had been fit???
4 of those in Farrell, Mickey Mac, Tomkins & Green make us significantly stronger than back then
I make it Saints will have 2 back Jones & Amor who are replacing Wilkin & Luke Walsh so don't see how they can be stronger than they were that night.
They also had Jonny Lomax missing that night meaning 3 players out that night???
I'm not sure how Saints were either :-
A/ More severely depleted than Wigan that day
B/ Stronger in comparion to what Wigan will be 3/4 months down the line compared to that night
Bilkos match report that I read over the weekend also made interesting reading and a couple of excerpts spring to mind.
"I was quite content with how that game went against Saints. Obviously you don't want to ever lose these derbies but you have to be a bit realistic in what a tough task that was for Wigan.
June has been a hot and humid month and Wigan have had to endure two extra games than St Helens in the shape of the Castleford cup tie and the midweek game in hand against Widnes.
We looked like a side that was carrying a lot of knocks, bumps and bruises but yet it was us who finished the stronger and who knows an extra minute at the end could of made all the difference.
It's not just that. The Saints team out on the field just looks a more settled side at the moment. They have a couple of absentees in the forwards, like Kyle Amor, but they have had the same pack pretty much playing every week since Easter.
&
That's a stark contrast to us. Apart from Joe Burgess, Anthony Gelling and Matty Smith go through practically the whole squad and they have all been doing the hokey-cokey since Easter. In, out, in, out and never getting match fit enough to shake it all about.
The last four losses for us have all been lost on the interchange bench in my opinion but it's only going to get stronger. I'm content that Blake Green, Mike McIlorum and Liam Farrell will be three huge returns to the team that played this one and let's not forget Eddy Pettybourne, Tony Clubb and Joel Tomkins should be available as well.
Clearly what we need to do for the run in the end of the season is find a settled side. The fact we have the majority of August off should allow us to do this. We should be able to get everyone fresh and fit raring for the play offs and that is far more important than this derby game in the middle of June."
What I'm definately not saying is that Saints can't win Saturday.
What I am saying is that the game in June shouldn't be used as any kind of barometer that Saints are going to be better/Stronger this time & Wigan Weaker as that is plainly not true.
Wigan have been conserving their efforts and only put the foot down from Leeds at Home & We are significantly stronger & in better shape now were I am not so sure Saints are.
What I will say is that I was slightly worried before the Wire game that we may have "Peaked" a week or 2 early and if Wigan do drop 10/20% & Saints improve by 10% there may be one hell of a game on the cards.
Sorry for the long post, Just passing time at work!
PS
I said a couple of months ago that Saints "Could" make the Grand Final if they played to their strengths and curbed their natural game and played a bit more structured & conservative.
Will it be enough to try & Out Wigan, Wigan?
Wire pushed the game with lots of offloads and a bit of off the cuff stuff and continued to do so even when the game was going against them, this eventually got them back in the game. i think Warrington are a 20% better side than Saints at the moment.
Should Saints do the same and revert to playing their more natural risky game or stick to what's got them there?
I know which one I hope they do!'"
Sorry I don't get what you are trying to say

| It must really annoy Warrington fans to see St Helens being SL champions knowing full well you have a better side.

Yes it's shocking. To be honest I haven't slept well for the past few days just thinking about it.

| I prefer to go off the final league placings, rather than a competition where someone who finished 5th can win it.

| Seriously as a Northerner down South i find myself defending my sport more than i ever have, i have no time for trolling Mr Forsyth so i'm telling you know pack it in.
The fact I've had to defend both Wigan and Saints is making me feel incredibly dirty.
