That’s not quite right; Rugby League is listed on their website under “More Telegraph Sport”, alongside the likes of Darts, Table Tennis, Netball and Obituries!!
What I don’t fully understand is whether this lack of coverage by the southern run press is done deliberately or simply a result of their ignorance. Clearly big business has close links with “popular” sports and with the media – and therefore its in their interest to promote these sports even though, in my opinion, they are an inferior product to RL.
Southern ignorance is always going to be a tough nut to crack. I remember having to explain numerous times during our recent trips to London as to why we were there and what was taking place that weekend at Wembley. I was even asked as to whether we were there to watch Sweden play (due to the many fans dressed in Yellow and Blue). Arrgh!! – where do you start?
Sadly I don’t think that the proposed lobbying of the Telegraph offices will achieve much – maybe instead the efforts of ourselves/ the RL should be focused on the new occupants of Salford’s media village.
