Quote ="Teessidewire"To be fair, Tommy O'Reilly was crap. He'd played for Bramley (rather badly) the season before he signed for us. That was the time of playing our fullback (Lee Penny) on the wing, our stand-off (Lee Briers) at fullback and O'Reilly at stand-off. Then to cap it all we signed Leon Felton. Bad days.'"
I actually remember a brief time when Tommy O'Reilly attained cult status, I think it was just around the time Cullen took over. I definitely remember Tommy O'Reilly chants at a game at the Shay.
Felton just looked like a student RL player playing in SL, it was one of Millward's bizarre ideas to bring him over to England and we probably picked him up because he'd had a trial at Saints. He was not big enough and obviously out of his depth even if he had decent speed.
Talking of 2002, if the fans were picking the team then, first name on the team sheet would have been Danny Halliwell. A great example of how 'fan power' when it comes to organising fund raising to sign a player, is a load of rubbish.
