The most telling statement of the article is the following:
[i“Again, we've kept editing of the interview to a bare minimum”[/i
In other words we've taken out any salient facts but kept in the controversial headlines like most unreadable rags do!

| Isn’t it heart warming that the ‘Salford Star’ magazine is so supportive of our club and the council’s efforts to provide new community facilities for the people in our city?
I wonder what influence a former, bitter, Reds director could have on this local magazine? Ohh that’s interesting . . I’ve just noticed he’s listed as one of their writers on the website. Without feeding ‘susceptibly inclined’ readers to conspiracy theories and contrived spat this magazine wouldn’t have run for more than two issues.

| A good journalist checks their sources and facts before printing the same can not be said for the SS, it prints mostly anti-salford proaganda reflecting its editiorial bias. I don't normally read it anymore.
just read it, what a load of tosh, Kingston basically hates the fact that thousands of jobs will be created at the quays, The Lowry outlet will grow with the Quays as BBC and Granada staff and other media add ons move in, the only problem is that some of the more up market stores might want to move in there, pushing others out but also increasing rental revenue back to the council, so the investment in the BBC will be shown to have been good business, hopefully this can be replicated by Salford City Reds. Kingston just sees the negative side to everything that is Salford and I don't think he is even from Salford.

| The SS is a very embittered rag .
Their implication is the Wilkinson & John Merry are a latterday Derek Hatton's doing dodgy deals to line their own pockets and up their own kudos.
Salford Council are just catching on
expanded Arndale Shopping / Trafford Centre
revamped Corn-exchange / 'Triangle '
Piccadilly Station refurb
Metro Link
Commonwealth Games - City of Manchester Stadium . Athletics Stadium
Manchester Velodrome
National Squash Centre
Urbis - Now soon to be National Football Museum
Printworks
Imperial War Museum of the North
Have all involved Manchester/ Trafford Council - Public & Private investment and have transformed the skyline & Image of Manchester
the Only landmark developments in Salford I can recall in the last 10-15 years ( Lowry Centre - Lowry 5 Star hotel ) are only in Salford by default . just across the river
Meanwhile Chapel st crumbles , the Precinct Rots
the City of Salford need to improve it's image & fast

Chapel Street is to go under some real redevelopment. They are trying to turn in into a nice shopping area, like in town and it might be pedestrianised in some places.
Don't forget the other things at the Quays, I mean you can't miss Media City?

| It’s a real shame that this so called ‘voice of the Salford people” magazine find it necessary to sway people against any progressive investment that creates jobs, improves facilities, lifestyle, image and wealth for our City. (All for the sake of their gutter press existence)

There's a rather interesting interview with John Merry in the Salford Star, (hopefully the attached link below works) concerning the council, the club, Peel, and the chairman, it's worth a read

no doubt there will be a few comments,

Some of the drivel that's been written on here just does my head in (see above) `editing to a bare minimum' means just the `ers' and `ummm' and stuff were taken out. Even John Merry himself has written that these interview pieces are totally fair. No `salient facts' were removed by editing.
How many times do we have to say that the Salford Star supports Salford Reds - we've even covered some of the games and ask again that if anyone wants to report on them to get in touch. But we also have a right to hold Salford Council up to account for its use of public money. Or maybe nobody on here believes in democracy and transparency and stuff any more...

See above... `former bitter director' has no influence on Salford Star - he wrote one article 2 years ago for the last print copy - we need to update contributors list! No conspiracy theories at Salford Star - only on thsi Forum. Are you all Labour councillors or something???

On the contrary - we're trying to make sure that there are some jobs for Salford people on the Quays and at Media City. As far as `anti Salford propaganda (you can't even spell it!) goes, two thirds of the Star is positive stories about Salford. Get real.
PS without making it personal, Kingston's family has been in Salford for over 150 years. So do one.

| Three continuous posts! It seems the nerve of a wannabe jouro troll has been touched. It seems the Salford Star like trying to create plenty sh*t but obviously can't take any criticism in return. May I remind you that this is the Salford Reds forum, you know the club 'in Salford' with a 133 year history that you haven't made one positive comment about since the inception of your magazine. You really need to open your eyes to all the excellent work the club does for the local community.

Assuming you do write for Salford Star, the manner in which you have addressed
the people on this message board is disgusting. You will be hard pushed to find anyone here who agrees with your stance, so you are the one who should, “do one”.

I would imagine your comment would offend every councillor in Salford. Wasn't that the job for the councillors of the opposition parties that were elected by Salford people? It implies you don't trust the opposition councillors to do their jobs competently. If you feel you can make a difference in Salford my advise is to forget about your free magazine and put yourself up for election.

And how does putting the wording in inverted commas make people understand what it is? It just looks to me (merely an opinion) like an attempt to make something sound as it has dubious legitimacy - like when you'd say "oh, that lazy so and so is 'working from home' again".
I know what land remediation is because I have a degree in Civil Engineering, a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Resources and am a member of a professional institute that includes Contaminated Land Remediation people amongst it's membership. Me in the council cabinet? Arf! You, paranoid much?

Iain has answered your question very correctly, and he is probably better suited to being in the media than you are, judging off some of your replies on this forum.
The problem with the media nowadays is that some reporters are trying to make news instead of just reporting it.
If "Salford Star" supports the City Reds then I am Neil Barker.
